  I think there ought to be a category like "Can't identify". Sometimes when animals are very distant or when it's a night shot with only glowing eyes showing, I shouldn't pick 'nothing here' but I have no way of making an educated guess as to ID. Those pics should go into a different hopper to be examined by others. As it is, I can only log out and log back in for a pic I can do something with.....

  I think you might find the following blog post by @kosmala - one of the scientists - helpful. It explains why they haven't provided an "I don't know" button, and how our answers are useful, even when they're mostly guesses:
