Not a lot of interaction

  • thowes by thowes

I can count on one hand the amount of times I have ticked 'interacting' -- and I have spent A LOT of hours on this 😃 Is this an accurate impression, do you think?

I think it depends on what you include as 'interacting'. I've included animals that are interacting with the camera or that are tussling with each other. I haven't seen any baby making going on... 😃

Me too... I have not used the 'interaction' button much. But it is fun when I do!

Most of the pics are of what animals do most of their day, eat, sleep, rest, walk. Don't forget the camera is static so that wildebeest who just 'walked' by could be having an 'interaction' just out of shot. I suspect if it were set on video mode we'd see a lot more interaction.

I have seen very few too, sometimes moms with a baby, sometimes juvies playing, is about all, and that is rare. Didn't know if I should mark the cheetah spraying the camera that I just posted as an 'interaction', but decided against it.

I've used it exactly once, for two wildebeests that appeared to be either playing or challenging one another as they ran toward the body of the herd. They seem to interact from rather a distance, so we're probably missing a lot.

I have only used it two or three times. I was unsure how to use it like others have said but I decided I would save it for when two or more are clearly interacting with each other. I hope that is the right thing to do!

Yes, I don't see "interaction" that often. I scored interaction as anything where the animals appear to be signaling, or behaving AT one another.

I have seen a couple gazelle where one seems to rush and drive off another: http://talk.snapshotserengeti.org/#/subjects/ASG0004tce

    Also this: http://talk.snapshotserengeti.org/#/subjects/ASG0004seh
Topi meet warthog, warthog meet topi 😃

I love that topi+warthog encounter -- I wish it kept going for another few frames, but it's such a wonderful composition in such beautiful light.

ASG0004jao was my favorite so far. Mostly I've seen grooming or playing (I think only with zebras so far - they're frisky).

Someone mentioned not seeing any mating shots... this is the only one I've seen... (And yeah I definitely hit the interaction button tag on this one!) http://talk.snapshotserengeti.org/#/subjects/ASG0000ftr
But as far as interaction, I have seen a lot of herd animals at times lying/resting together, even sometimes touching the one next to its side w/it's nose, and I called that interaction. And I also used that label if I saw an animal really interacting with its environment. (Like the zebra who itched his butt on a tree, for ex. 😃 )

(I love that topi warthog shot too!)

I have been seeing more and more. I have a collection that involves two or more species. Also, lots of mother and babies interacting.
