Wildebeest and Buffalo

  • michele.mks by michele.mks

I've developed the (perhaps inappropriate) habit of not looking for buffalo when I see wildebeest and vice versa. It almost seems like the herds avoid each other, even though they may be using the same grazing areas. Can anyone tell me the reason for this?

I believe the reason may be that buffalo are short tempered, prone to attack anything and VERY big. 😉
If you look at buffalo herds on the pictures, there are very seldom any other animals close by; no-one likes the idea of a ton of muscle suddenly charging at them... a very real possibility!
