An interesting non-animal thing came up in this photo - for once not grass swaying in the breeze. Are these small fires normal? Are they human started? How does it not turn into a huge inferno?

This could either be a natural fire or a prescribed fire by the park managers. Either way, its a way of rejuvenating the soil by adding nutrients back into the soil and promoting new growth and diversity. It's a good thing!
