Kudus

  • Wolbo by Wolbo

I noticed the kudu is not mentioned in the list of animals. Are there no kudus in the Serengeti or this part of Africa?

We don't think there are any kudus in Serengeti -- nobody has seen one in the park for at least several decades, if not longer. However, there are lesser kudu in Maswa game reserve to the southwest of Serengeti. We do have a lot of eland though!

Thx. I saw that the eland has very similar stripes. Are they closely related?

Yes, they're pretty closely related. They're from the same sub-family, "Bovinae," which includes the buffalo and four-horned and spiral-horned antelopes.

Stan saw a kudu in the lion study area a couple of weeks ago - this may have been the first kudu seen in the Serengeti in decades
