Eland?

  • tgr by tgr

OK I put that beast on the ground as an Eland, but it was really difficult with those horns being so different. What made me go for Eland was that mane it has on its back.

    Expert opinion welcomed 😃

I think it is an eland. Compared to the zebra it must be a big antelope, which eliminates most of the antelope. The mane, small shoulder hump, and light coloration also point to an eland. The horns are a little strange, but they are straighter that a hartebeest or a waterbuck. The slight curve can be attributed to the single spiral that characterizes eland horns.

Thanks. That's more or less the reasoning I used as well. I've seen a couple of elands with horns like that now, maybe an example in the reference pics would help others too?
