This jackal is running towards what I think is an eland, but as far as I know jackals aren't hunters. Is this jut coincidence?

Yeah I don't think a jackal can take down a gazelle (looks like a gazelle). At least not alone, and they rarely hunt in packs.

Although we often see them scavenging from lion or hyena kills, jackals do also hunt -- but mostly small things. From invertebrates (beetles, grasshoppers) to rodents to newborn antelope & gazelles. There are reports of them killing adult sheep and goats on ranches, but I think they're generally unable to (successfully) hunt adult gazelle.
