Is this a mongoose?

The examples were all striped, but the text says they come in many different colors

Tail is wrong for a mongoose, compare:

Not sure what it is though!

Yes, I thought so too, but then I read the description: "Short legs and a humped back, appears weasel or ferret-like. Range in size and color – from the tiny, brown dwarf mongoose to the larger banded mongoose, to the bushy tailed white-tailed mongoose."

Based on your reply, which I think is a good one (agree it doesn't look like the examples) I looked up

    … and white-tailed mongoose: http://www.pbase.com/mytmoss/image/50492415

Now I'm thinking it might be a white-tailed mongoose. What do you think?

I think #white-tailed-mongoose is spot on!

    Thanks!

Think it would be good if they included pictures of the dwarf and white-tailed mongoose among their examples - very different from the banded mongoose. Now I'm pretty sure that what I once classified as a rodent was in fact a dwarf mongoose. Hmph.

Hehe I think we've all been there 😄

I agree, they should. It's a bit confusing right now.
