Are fires common in the Serengeti?

I've seen quite a few of these. Is it common for fires to start because of the dry grass? Ever get people who intentionally start fires? How do you scientists living out there deal with it.

A #fire can happen naturally or can be set as a management tool for the park. Usually they aren't too close to our research station!
