Are these 3 Gazella looking at the leftovers after the forest fire? What is that widespread black seen on the ground?

That's ash from burnt grass. Such grass fires are commonplace and often started by Park staff as a management tool - early burning before grass is really dry, prevents more destructive fires later on, or that's the theory. Tommies prefer fresh new grass shoots, and a lot of those appear in burnt areas soon after a fire. They are then easier to graze than when buried in tall dry stems.
