Gazelle feel safer in fire-cleared area?

Interesting to see two Tommies lying down here - rarely see them doing that out in the open. At least it's not something I've seen in these photos. I was wondering if perhaps the fact that the fire has cleared all the vegetation for a reasonable distance all round means they feel safer, because they have a clear view around them - nothing can sneak up on them without them seeing it a fair distance away?

I've seen gazelles lying down, but usually only when they were in a group where others were standing up. Perhaps there are other Tommies standing out of view of the camera.
