Missing chunk of zebra mane

  • Traceydix by Traceydix

There seems to be a chunk missing from this zebra's mane. Is this likely to be the result of a failed predator attack, an attack by a rival male, or disease?

Ouch! It wouldn't be easy for either a predator or rival to cleanly bite out such a large chunk. My best guess is that this zebra put its head in a wire noose snare, and managed to break free. There may still be wire there, can't tell. Sadly, a lot of large animals get snared every year in SNP.

Nasty. The animal looks healthy enough, so maybe it got rid of the snare.
