Ears!

    Somewhat pointy. I thought a serval or a bat-eared fox, but the ears are not silvery grey, so I think a serval is favored.
    But they are slightly rounded, also. Maybe young/female lions?

    Hmmm, I don't think I agree. The Jackal's ears appear pointier to me.

    I think you are seeing a different perspective in the two pictures. The one you posted, Eugenius seems to show the animal from the back of the head, whereas David's shot is more from the side, so it may make the ears look skinnier and pointier. However, since these images are from the same series, and taken about a minute apart, odds are very strong that they capture the exact same animal (not just same species).

    Also, David really knows his stuff, so you can generally trust his response when he gives you a definitive ID.
