Young hartebeest?

  • eugenius by eugenius

I think there's a Thompson's Gazelle beating a retreat, but the appearance of the forground animals
seem to resemble immature hartebeest more than anything else. Other opinions? There seems to be a
6th animal in line with the hartebeest, if that's what they are, in the mid-distance, just beyond the
two in the right foreground, just to the left of them. It's color seems whiter. Is it also a hartebeest?

Yes, these are young hartebeest in the foreground. The animal on the right in the back is a Grant's gazelle, not a Thomson's gazelle. Younger Grant's gazelles have darker stripes on their sides that make them look similar to the way Thomson's gazelles look but you can tell them apart by the fact that the white on their rump extends above the tail in a Grant's gazelle.
