It's fairly typical. This could be a small matriarchal group, and such groups commonly coalesce into herds of 20-30 or more.
(The biggest herd I've ever seen in the study area was about 360 together, but that was back in '86, when there was a lot of poaching in SNP. It seemed as though those elephants were 'hiding' out in the open plains to get away from the poachers who lurked in the woodlands).
