Fire season

  • parsfan by parsfan

Was it particularly late this year? It looks like the wildfires have been in late May/ early June in season 7; in earlier years I seem to recall that the fires attracted white storks etc to feed on the escaping insects and lizards and things. The storks had obviously left for Europe by the time we are seeing these burns.
Was the weather earlier particularly different?

I wouldn't call it really late. The object of controlled burns is to get the fires going before the grass is fully dry, so May is good for that - unless the rains were very poor, in which case you could burn earlier. Seems there was some patch burning in May & June, and some pretty hot fires later in Jul & Aug.

    Scientists, any comment?
