Some kind of cat?

Tried to ID based solely on a rump and tail, which is pretty short. I suppose it could be a camera trick, where the tail is aiming towards the lens causing foreshortening. Is it a lion? Or something else?

Based on the color, texture of hair and length of the legs - my guess is that you are right - it is a lion. The tail is too short but there is a good chance it is the camera. I can't think of anything else that that pose or stance would fit and the rump is definitely not a gazelle.

Why would this not be a caracal?
