  Wondering about the middle picture. Are those whiskers or just more fur?

  I think it's a hyena. Check out the beefy shoulders and elongated neck of the third photo. It could be the whiskers in the second photo look so pronounced for a hyena because it's snuffling right up at the camera lens.

  Agree that it's quite likely to be a spotted hyena.
