why is the bird in that position??? did it have a bad landing?

It could be sunning itself, or doing something called Anting, (see it quite a bit in the UK with certain species more often seen) which means simply allowing ants to crawl over it, the acid from the ants is said to help with getting rid of things like mites..

This is a black-shouldered kite which preys on rodents. Often when it pounces on a mouse (easily spotted in this mowed grass) it spreads its wings to shield its prey from the eyes of others who might steal it. This could be an alternative explanation.
