The Gimp

I'm having a lot of success bringing up dark shots to be brighter and then adjusting the contrast by copying poorly exposed shots to my desktop and then editing with Gimp Graphics Editor. It' open source/ free. Guess any photo editor would do

GIMP is great, I often use it. It might seem a little bit intimidating to anyone who is not used to powerful editors like photoshop, etc, though. As you say, any photo editor would do, even the simple one that comes with MS Office. I like Photoscape (www.photoscape.org ) which is free and a bit less complicated than Gimp

I just use Preview on my Mac, it comes preinstalled on Macs. Very simple to use.
