Situations like this...

    I mean there is clearly an animal here...to my un-trained eye, perhaps a wildebeest, but my question becomes, with picture (sets in some cases) like this, do I make a best guess, or is the picture not wide enough to tell, in which case I should just put "nothing to see here?"

    If you're pretty sure (or know, as in this case) that there's an animal there, give it your best guess as to what it is. Never put "Nothing here" when you know that's not true. Knowing there's "something" there, even if they can't tell what helps the scientists far more than dismissing a picture because it was a tough call. 😃

    Oh, and your 'untrained' eye made a good call. That is indeed a wildebeest. Identifying traits are the fairly large size, dark brown color, black mane along the back of the neck, and bit of white-ish fringe/beard along the bottom of the neck. 😃
