  I don't know if this is smoke from a fire or just a lot of dust kicked up by unseen animals behind the bushes

  There's one buffalo visible back R and others running maybe kicked up the dust.

  It is dust caused by some running animals. It is too fast, low and directional to be smoke given that there appears to be little or no breeze.
