Insect?

My first thought on this picture was that I was looking at eye reflections but some of them are in front of the vegetation and they are virtually in a straight line. This, to me, would make it one object. If this is one insect then how were so many images caught in one picture?

I think they are all eye reflections of a herd of animals - maybe wildebeest - beyond the vegetation. The camera is tilted so the horizon slopes down to R, which is confusing.
