Only a thin line. Is this normal? I mean, does it do this if the camera is broken or do I need to go to a different device?

What you posted looks to me like a complete picture of a herd of wildebeest and zebra grazing. If you are only getting a thin line, try a different device. Sometimes an image is incompletely recorded and a portion of it is just grey, but that is not the case here.
