Strange placement of teats??

  • Shamsun by Shamsun

So very curious if anyone can tell me what animal this is. It looks like we are seeing teats but I have never seen such placement.

Yes, it is good to be curious, that is the way to learn. It is adult female giraffe, very close the camera. The animal's height and partly visible coat pattern are cues here. They do have four teats. We actually quite often see images like this from giraffe. Here is another example, where all four teats visible. ASG001o8sm 😃

This camera must be placed unusually high to get such a view! Normally we just see the lower legs.

Yes, Thanks David for adding that this close the camera, this view is unusual! 😃

This Extended Survey season the cameras seem to be placed at very variable heights, some of them really high 😃

Ha, nice! Yes, most of the cameras in the Special Season are about 1.5 meters high because our study needs good views of the herbivores (though, not specifically their undersides 😃. Other Snapshot Serengeti seasons have cameras set at less than 1 meter.
