Spotty zebra

  • Calbeam by Calbeam

This capture ASG0018126 unusual zebra pattern shows zebra with unusual patterning. How common is this, and is it known what might have caused it?

Don't know what this is doing in FAQs... I thought I was posting in 'Science'.

Each zebra has unique markings and this would appear to be a mutation that has caused some of the stripes to appear as spots. Whilst rare, it is by no means unique, as can be seen in the attached photos

Interestingly, it is often assumed that the zebra has a white coat with black stripes, but it is the reverse. Hope that this helps.
