Only tail of this critter is visible - any ideas?

Looks like a large fluffy tail and spotted or dappled fur, but its head is never visible. I've tentatively tagged it as a bat-eared fox, but I'd appreciate a second opinion!

I found something that looked like that that was a springhare. The have very bushy tails.

It looks like a white tailed mongoose --they're really rare to see in the field, but they show up on cameras now and again. Bat eared foxes and jackals also have bushy tails, but theirs tend to be darker.

Did a Google image search and that looks like what it is! That huge fluffy tail threw me for a loop - it didn't look like any of the mongoose sample pictures. Thanks!

Great - I've just tagged it (I think) as a #mongoose so folks down the line will have a good reference. I'm still learning my way around the talk forum, so I think I did that right...
