Lion attack?

    Not sure what this is, but it looks like it's had a recent run in with a carnivore... any idea what it is?

    That sure does look like a lions tail though. Maybe an old lion being bested by a younger one, then ousted from the pride?
    I assume the scientists here would know what this is and even the name of the animal if they know the story.

    It's a lion. The wound is on its back where lions tend to bite each other when fighting.
