Is this an Aardwolf? The black snout and pointy ears fit, but the coat doesn't look stripey.

Yes, that was my first thought, but I thought the ears were too pointy. And the Spotted Hyena pics show smoother fur. Still, it's likely as they're the most common.

The Aardwolf looks closer to a striped hyena, but has less stripes and pronounced vertical stripes over the shoulder and back. Great shot btw.

Maybe it's a youngster? Young animals often have shaggier/woollier coats than adults.
