Baiting the traps?

It looks like he is scattering something on the ground. Do you sometimes bait the traps?
Seems that might make subsequent spatial modeling a bit problematic, but it would let you look at more animals...

He's actually cutting some grass with one of our hand-held "slashers." We don't bait the traps because we don't want to bias any patterns of habitat use by the animals.
