Giraffe pattern

  • sihoka by sihoka

The black spots of this giraffe look very intriguing und unusual to me: the outlines are very undulating. I am no expert, but I can remember having read that there are several sub-species of giraffes. If it is so, can they be found in the research area?
    Thanks, sihoka.

Yes, there are different subspecies of giraffe throughout Africa. The subspecies we have in Serengeti is the Maasai giraffe. They have these cool markings as opposed to the regular polygon pattern you probably learned as a kid. Some of the other subspecies of giraffe have the polygon spots.
