Snapshot Serengeti Talk

closeups

I get very frustrated in trying to identify such closeup pictures. I can't really tell what they are, but since there IS something there, on the basis of other's comments, I tend to say Wildebeest, but it could be any one of a number of other animals.

    Feedback?

judging by the skin and shape, I´d say its definitely an elephant leg

Yes, it's an elephant - nothing else looks like this (think tree trunk).

As you see more pictures, you'll get better at recognizing distinctive body parts. One thing that can really help with that is looking at the picture comments on the talk page. People will often share pictures that they had trouble with, and someone usually comes through with an ID. So you get to see a lot of tougher ID's that way, and find out what the right answer is, too. And I like being able to see shots of some of the animals that haven't come up yet for me to classify. I usually take a few minutes to scan through the recent image comments whenever I classify just to see what everyone else has found since last time I was on. 😃
