Anyone know what this means?

  I got the "27 Jan 14", that's the date; but why would someone hold something up like that? Is the person one of the researchers?

  Researchers and field assistants check on the cameras occasionally. The usually hold up a sign with the date, it helps to "synchronize" the date/time stamps on the images. You might also see people cutting the vegetation in front of the camera.
