Snapshot Serengeti Talk
A few photos after my first hippo - first secretary bird. On a roll ...
I think this is my first hippo in thousands of pictures .... 😃
I flagged this as a giraffe, but it's just a nose .....
I'm glad you lot struggled as well; I had it as a dog, a BEF and then a jackal. But golden wolf is cheating; it's not even on the list : )
Nice picture.
I flagged this as a duiker (dark muzzle) but I'm not sure. If it is, it's my first duiker ....
The three sequential photos show these up very nicely.
I think this is my first secretary bird in thousands of photos. Nice shot too.
just missed nice shot of jackal
great close-up. Lovely
flagged reedbuck but not sure ...
nice aardvark !
some very odd optical effects on quite a few of the new photos ...
you should have a box for "chilling"
very full hyena - in day light
pied crow ?
gangly calf/foal
ox peckers ?
Is this a good example of Grant's young looking like Thompson's ? Not likely to be a mixture ??
Hmmm, well, I guess if I flag these as "insects" someone more experienced can easily check - at some stage ??
I've been flagging lights in the sky (see photo) as "insects" although I have no idea what they actually are. Are there any guidelines ?
flagged this waterbuck from horns (or reedbuck ?). Not sure
I was fooled because it appears to just one horn. Thought it might be rhino, though it's thin for that ....
quite small calf
flagged as jackal; not sure
moonlit giraffe
I flagged this as a cheetah but wasn't sure.
camouflage works !
long horns
I thought the ears looked a bit long for a jackal and the legs a bit short ???
a zebra ! usually it's Thompson's gazelles hanging out under these trees (I call it Thompson's alley ...)
quite close !
flagged as bat-eared fox; not sure. First animal I've seen like this ...
flagged as hyena; not sure
fine horns
first porcupines I've seen ....
I think I've only ever seen single hyenas. Don't they operate in packs/families ?
can't make these out (upper right) ... warthogs ?
I flagged this buffalo but I can't make out the head. Could it be a hippo ? Looks a bit fat for a buffalo.
Nice one of foal
Hartebeest ?
Not sure about this. Bushbuck was the nearest I could get with the horns, but I don't see any markings. Horns don't look right for eland.
Quite small calf
Oh damn, I flagged them as eland .....
I've seen the red and blue/white patches (foreground) before; are they optical flaws or similar ?
I guess not - it doesn't look real to me ....
I flagged this as "no animal" and there's a zebra right in the middle !
If those are also topi in the background (?), that's a very small calf
Don't usually see these guys down ...
Very slender topi - presumably young ? - but with quite well developed horns. Elegant animal.
Is this some kind of test case ??
lunch time ...
I can't make out what that is in the middle of the picture ... bird ?
waterbuck ? horns look right. First one I've seen (if correct)
nice one of baby
has this lioness caught something small or is she playing with a cub ?
this one's checking out the camera ....
Is it mongooses or mongeese ?
Seemed rather a long body for the girth ??
tiny foal !
obvious stripes - aardwolf ??
you have to wonder why they're in such a rush
calf close-up
Sometimes I get this (or similar) image. Usually I flag it "nothing" but it looks a bit like a perching bird (out of focus). Any advice ??
This looks like a cheetah to me .. but I didn't think they hunted at night ??
This appears to be a topi with six calves ! Are we just not seeing other mothers ... or am I missing something ?
??
leopard or cheetah ? thought it looked a bit stocky for a cheetah ....
What's happening at the stern of this zebra ? Can't make it out. And what's in the little cage, front left ?
can't make this out; bit dark on my PC. Is it two wildebeeste fighting ?
OK - with that help, I think I can just see long ears - probably saw them as grass before ...
There's a little ratty thing near the middle of this photograph - nearest I can get is a genet but it doesn't seem to be spotted/striped ??
Thanks for letting us see the Serengeti through your cameras !
Tiny baby elephants !
This looks like a moggy. Is it a wildcat ? It's got stripes on the forelegs
I think there's at least one baby behind Mom ... which I failed to note when classifying ....
I think I clicked Aardwolf when clearly it's an aardvark.
Why are there sometimes storks near fires ? Are they waiting for fleeing lunch ?
what is the little job on the bush at the right. Nearest I could get was a genet -but that doesn't look right ....
