Snapshot Serengeti Talk
Now that's a good selfie!
guessed hartebeest. too big for gazelle, I think
If they weren't in the shade I'd mark this a selfie!
#dailyzoo ? two pairs of zebras so well lined up that all you see of the two in the back are their legs! Plus a young'un.
#slate
#dailyzoo ?
I wonder about that line of black dots in the middle distance. Migrating wildebeest? No sign of movement. Marked No Animals Present
small bird, upper right corner
broken horn.
Not sure what species this is, but those eyelashes are cool!
#dailyzoo
leaf? branch? doesn' look animal.
Impala. ?young?
How can you tell? I see only a tree.
Do any of these grazing beasts give birth lying down? I have seen film of giraffe and wildebeest standing during birth.
waterbuck????
On the move
Migration?
#wildebeest #calf following mom - lovely pic!
Hartebeest? And what's that blurry thing in snap 2? A bug? An eyelash?
#impala. Thanks for those rump pictures!
similar to Guinea Fowl but red legs, lacks blue head, a bit smaller I think
Confirmation! They really DO move both legs on the same side together! #dailyzoo
No other animals around, and no wonder!
cheetah! #dailyzoo
One clear impala, one clear Tommie, but what about that bunch under the trees, and how can you tell?
#wound on left ear?
closest one definitely zebra, others to right probably the same; there may be many, many more further off but it's too foggy to be sure.
Is that a zebra on the horizon???
mating behavior??
#warthog family
?? Does the damage to horns indicate this #buffalo is male?
snow? can't be. flower petals? feathers? certainly not animal. #mystery ???
Could be eagle or other bird of prey but I guessed #vulture because I've grown fond of their cousins, the condors, and it does look similar.
ten wildebeest
Grant's gazejjé
Oh, for an " I haven't a clue" button!
Good catch! This pose is very similar to 3rd sample pic of topi. Thanks!
#warthog good picture also one "oxpecker"
?? What do you think? I guessed hartebeest.
#dailyzoo Let me tell you a secret . . .
#rain
Now, that's what I call a #selfie and perhaps a candidate for #dailyZooniverse ( #dailyZoo ?)
lions??
What is that line coming up from that hill near center? A signal fire? Does the serengeti have volcanos?
The famous migration?
Another eight-legged zebra! #zebra
#calf and some cuddly wildebeest!
Thanks! #bushbuck
#jumping #wildebeest? I thought cattle from body shape but see horns & can believe WB can jump like that. But why???
#butterfly
beautiful #eland !
?bushbuck?
??? The only thing I can think of is perhaps some kind of cocoon?
Pretty flexible. Thanks, @tillydad!
First time I've seen a giraffe lying down. Do they put their heads down to sleep?
? what is the name of that mountain?
lower right - calf with budding horns
? predator is easy, but what is the prey?
dramatic lighting!
Seems like books in the background
#bird flying -- left, snap 3
?? Who has a tail like that, that those juicy impala wouldn't run away from? I guessed monkey.
2 eland?
What's that wildebeest got in its mouth??
hartebeest runnung? or lion stalking? I can't tell. Any suggestions?
#flying -- beautiful! snap1, left
Oh, now I see! Thanks to both!
HELP! My closest guess is baboon, but the tail doesn't fit, nor that blurred (maybe) face, shaggy fur, rather tall, wimpy tail, what?????
In the distance near left edge could be two animals (zebra & wildebeest) overlapping, but there's something taller moving there too. Ideas?
#leopard !!
too dark to count, but lots of them. #wildebeest by shape of back and one long lashing tail on left.
tip of tail only
beautiful baby
#impala ! horns, coloring, rump, even the black spots over the heels
spotted #hyena
yellow #butterfly
my first cat! leopard?
zebras at dusk
They're cleverly posed to hide any clues to tell Grants from Thomsons. I guessed Tommie by length of tail visible in snap 1 only.
my first good view of a #warthog !
#dustdevil
warthogs?
Top of somebody's head with ears and budding horn. Who? I guessed Tommie because I like them, but really, i have no idea.
options: A) miniature Tyrannosaurus biting a Tommy's rear, or B) a warthog's snout, or C) ???
I've seen that curved shadow at the bottom of the screen before. Is an elephant's trunk, something's back, or a camera effect?
Little bird on giraffe's neck - I classified it bird(other) but would it be helpful to hashtag these little fellow-travelers somehow?
#elephant trunk & freshly broken branch
Oh, for an "I have no idea" button!!!
Thanks for standing near to help me guess about the moving dots so far away!
beautiful sky!
#bird in flight -- good shot!
1 big animal by skin, hartebeest by color; 2 think that's ear not horn; 3 what on earth? like half ceremonial mask on animal's side? HELP???
flat out running! Is next picture a lion?
#baby rolling in the grass!
Is eye in distance another hippo? Or are they solitary?
papa elephant, mama elephant, #baby elephant!
@dianag825 I'm really filled with envy! So many great captures in only 10 minutes! What's your secret?
Guessed baby & mother baboon but I've really no idea. Please say what you think???
porcupine?
Second one had me fooled because he's cleverly hidden his legs directly behind the one in front. Gotcha!!! #eland
Those stripes don't look like zebra. No idea.
tried to identify by the tail. young eland?
There should be an option for ghosts, mirages, and shadows. Doesn't this look like a closeup reflection of a hippo? Yet no real hippo there.
I'm thinking the one in the center is a wildebeest #calf
Such eyelashes!
yes indeed
my first #ostrich !
foreground one seems to have one horn crooked
hartebeest chin?
Tortoise??
Good thing we don't have to identify shadows!
#blur
#thomson's baby nursing??
thomson's in center has only one horn.
Ooops! I meant far right. Perhaps a migration? but too far away to identify animal. Advice please?
2 zebra & 4 wildebeest up close. Is that a big herd in the far left?
Impala -- ears have black tips
On right, young zebra with Mom, possibly also young wildebeest tho not as clear.
Lovely sunset!
I'm guessing the fast-moving light brown one in right middle distance is a wildebeest calf (with mother) -- Any other ideas?
Cutie pie!
#zebra slip, fall, get up on your feet and run!
ASG001e991 I'm guessing giraffe because who else could show an ear coming down from top with no other part showing?? Other ideas?
Thompson's selfie
ASG0019tnu my favorite!
ASG001exnu
ASG001cr31
ASG0018jun
mother & child #zebra
#giraffe and #insect -fly?
bird in snap 3
3 very different pictures - a fastmoving wildebeest??
? 3 zebra?
Wildebeest in foreground, but what's that gray thing on the ground? The only thing I could think of is the end of an elephant's trunk.
can't be elephant - skin not wrinkled- so I guessed buffalo. Several flies, two resting on mammal's leg.
? side of zebra's belly hides rump of second hartebeest except for tail and one hind leg ?
Reedbusk & Wildebeest??
warthog -- easy! but what about that moving white thing at bottom of frame? I guessed springhare. Suggestions?
truck
Hartebeest? because of the long nose?
Thank you! I'll watch for that.
#bird-other in snap 3 is probably a butterfly
brittanymitchell, how can you tell? Maybe you could give me tip for pictures like this one?
A hard one! the zebras are easy but what's the brownish beast farther away? I guessed Eland
Migration? I found one clear pair of horns among the moving shapes on the horizon. Not sure Wildebees/Buffalo.
#bird-other in snap 3 on the wing
herd resting in shade under central trees
#bird-other high in the sky snap 2
#question what about those glowing spots just outside the circle of light. Eyes? How should we handle them?
#guess some large herd animal, guessed wildebeeste. But what on earth is that in center? I finally decided tree trunk.
#guess - lots of glowing eyey staring at 1 wildebeest. small animal, I guessed fox
#bird-other on the wing, visible only in view 2
something triagular at skyline on left, view 2 only. camera artifact?
on horizon on right, large animals
tall grass moving in the wind?
what are those glowing specks? camera artifact or some kind of critter?
Now that's a good selfie!
guessed hartebeest. too big for gazelle, I think
