Snapshot Serengeti Talk
For what it's worth I'd guess spottie. But agree it's a tough one. Ewok perhaps ? 😉
When you hit play, that animal seems to have a long swinging black tail. I'd go with zebra over rhino.
#spotted-hyena
I'm on my phone with fairly poor image quality. Think this could be a kori bustard walking away from the camera?
Lovely herd of resting #wildebeest with #young and #bird x3 #multiplespecies
Lucky me! A quick check in to my old friends at SS and I get this #serval right off the bat 😃
Lovely #elephant image
Thanks, maricksu! I was very excited to see season 10 released. Already some beautiful images!
These are #impala - we can tell by the black tipped ears and black on either side of the rump. Neither duiker nor reedbuck would have these
#porcupine
#elephant
#impala #interaction - locking horns.
Nevermind. I found another shot from this camera. Just a log.
Is this someone- just a head peeking up along the bottom? Looks a little furry.
#elephant family with #young #calf
#hyena
#wildebeest #interaction
Yep. I'd call that hashtag positive for #hippo. Good sighting!
#hippo - By far my most exciting sighting in a season with a lot of "no animals present"
#giraffe x3 (perhaps 4 if there is one behind the tree in the center?)
I went with warthogs on the right and was toggling between topi and eland to the left. I settled on topi. We match : )
Other than this #warthog, I'm not really sure who is who. Help?
2 #zebra. One #biting the other
more #fire
#fire
Yes - I agree. I am now seeing some of these images from higher up cameras and getting used to the black and white night shots. Thanks : )
#human working x3
#vervet-monkey x4
large #wildebeest #herd
#giraffe
lion?
Nice #hippo
#jackal
#eland #zebra and #buffalo
#giraffe x2
Wow! Check out this beautiful #serval. PS - I am even more confused by the season resuming when I see this photo was tagged 5 months ago.
What's the #topi over on the right doing? Plus #zebra and maybe impala in back.
#tommy in front with #elephant in back.
#warthog family with adorable #young. What are baby warthogs called? Hoglets? : )
Two #young #topi; #scratching with #zebra
Agree - I see the white dots on the side. Hashtag positive?
interesting #wildebeest caught in the camera flash. Very artsy.
#buffalo #interaction. Others just watching.
#vervet-monkey x3
little duiker face? potentially young reedbuck or bushbuck?
#guinea-fowl and #zebra x2 heads down in the rain
#hartebeest #scratching
#elephant x2
Or bird-other?
#elephant with #human driving by
#lion at the log
#wildebeest #interacting close to camera
Good photo!
I'm thinking too skinny and low (since this camera is on the ground). How about kori bustard?
#kori-bustard watching some #zebra
4 #topi including #young with #zebra friends
#lion on the log
Black and white horse-like #zebra
At least 3 #lion, maybe 4
What is this over to the right in frame one. Whatever it is, it leaves very fast.
I agree. Looks like elephant to me.
Looks like maybe 5 or 6 #guinea-fowl and I believe a bird-other on the tree to the left
Wow! Great one!
Wildebeest butt?
#slate
secretary bird?
Nice #hyena shot : )
I was thinking jackal?
I'd go with warthog. 😃
That's an #eland. Black bands on legs, dewlap, hairy hump above shoulders, faint stripes. : )
Did you guys see this one from earlier? I just took a second look and it is still a mystery to me.
Oh - I could see that. Heads up with ears visible in frame 1 then ears down in frame 2. Thanks : )
#aardvark
Who are these two?
#jackal, #black-backed-jackal on the move
Nice #bird-other taking flight
#jackal with #topi
Who is the fast runner?
Hippo
Pretty sure that's a # reedbuck rather than duiker. Larger size, reddish coloring, no black on muzzle....
What a great capture!
#eland up close
#elephant family with #young
looks like #smoke
Strange shot. #bird entering in bottom right corner in frame 2.
#giraffe knees
Any ideas on this one? The tail confused me.
#cheetah perhaps using the camera as a scratching post.
Three #hartebeest, two #zebra, and one #topi
Thanks, David and klallman! Thought duiker, but know they are uncommon here. Guess I should trust my gut. 😃
I still struggle with these little guys. Dik-dik? Or could this one be a duiker?
#serval on the hunt
#bat-eared-fox
#slate. These signs are used by the researchers to mark the date and time when the SD card is changed in the camera.
Majestic #lion; #male-lion : )
#vervet-monkey
Beautiful #jackal
Love it!
Wow - at least 8 #giraffe : ) Plus something (maybe a topi?) in the center
#lion eye super close up
So fast! #grants-gazelle flying by.
beautiful #cheetah
#buffalo with small #calf
Just found this one. Funny! : )
#bird-other in flight
Coded correctly based on height, fur, and ear notch. Thanks! 😃
#hippo x3. One in the back looks young.
Whose ear on the left?
#eland herd
Who is this in front center moving in frame three? Honestly can't tell if it is bird, rodent, or reptile. First guess was lizard.
lion x2
3 #bird-other; Frame 1 has interesting in flight shot carrying twig
Am confused by this. Thought elephant trunk, but looks so hairy.
Exciting!
Filthy #warthog and mixed #herd with #wildebeest and a few #zebra
#ostrich - male trying to catch the eye of a female exiting left?
I just see tree. And the frame for the camera that has fallen down. : )
#giraffe w/ #young on the right
#lion #collar
Male #ostrich on the move
Who is this #bird-other?
#ostrich x2 hanging out with a bunch of #zebra
Gorgeous!
I'd vote vegetation.
Thanks to all! : )
reedbuck with ear spot not visible? Or duiker perhaps?
#buffalo with #calf
Soggy #tommy herd. #gazelle
#serval tail
Looks kinda small for a serval. Any chance this is a genet sneaking by dik-dik corner?
#giraffe eating; a second standing in the back
Is that a leopard exiting far right? Definitely looks catlike.
Who is this? I went with hyena, but head in frame three made me question.
Gorgeous #eland : )
Nice #cheetah photo.
I went with jackal. Could be almost anyone, I suppose.
inquisitive #buffalo
Maybe dwarf mongoose?
Good eye!
I believe this is 4 #elephant - 2 adults and 2 #calf
#tommy with amazing evening sky; #selfie
#elephant on the move
#waterbuck entering right
Beautiful!
Beautiful sky! And at least 2 #hartebeest
#lion perhaps found something interesting

Great shot!
Yay! Love it.

Yay! My first honey badger.
Two resting #black-backed-jackal with #zebra around
#giraffe @ night
#hare
A very spotty #spotted-hyena
#warthog with 7 guinea fowl?
#ostrich x4. I didn't know they hang in groups!
#elephant x3
I wish I could see the camera shot right after this. Running #tommy, eating and running #wildebeest, flying #bird-other x at least 2
Thanks, maricksu. Always nice to be validated 😃
#black-backed-jackal intent on something ahead
Waterbuck exiting left?
#baboon and 3 #bird-other
#warthog snout
2 #bird-other. "Darn, my favorite perch is taken!"
#lions resting
#cheetah with #cub in frame 1
Nice clear image of male #reedbuck
Love it! Adorable.
Hmm. Went with waterbuck. What do you think, experts?
I think I see those bushbuck dots. Hashtag positive?
#bird-other in flight and another on the ground, I believe.
Surprise #giraffe in frame 3
#lion resting with #collar
Thanks, davidbygott. I'm just testing you and tillydad : ) this one just looked a bit different so had to ask.
Looks like #wildebeest and #giraffe
Is that a serval in the grass just under the horizon line left of center?
#jackal - could this be a golden wolf?
#black-backed-jackal
I coded this an eland. But perhaps I moved too quickly - with these long smooth horns could this be a bushbuck?
#buffalo nose
Are all 5 #topi? 2 adults and 3 young?
#topi x2. Standing vs. moving.
#tommy #selfie
Ah yes. I see that now. Jumping rather than flying. # removed. Thanks!! 😊
Thanks, tillydad!
A playful kitty at heart. Thanks to all!
Hmm. I think I vote for a large dirty buffalo.
thanks, davidbygott. I like the positive spin. 🙂
#butterfly x2
I think I see 4 of them - two in the back, young male in front and an ear to the right in frame 3.
Think this is a cheetah based on the curve of the back when lightened.
Is that a bat over the #zebra?
#elephant shaking up the tree at dik-dik corner
#bird-other
Banded mongoose? @davidbygott - I have been searching for that great reference on the different types of mongoose. Could you re-post?
curious #eland
Four #giraffe on the move. And a bird-other flying behind the tree to the left.
beautiful #cheetah surprised by the camera perhaps
#grants-gazelle x5 hanging with #hartebeest
Close up of lion's collar?
Looks like a white tailed mongoose.
I love this! Thanks for sharing : )
Gorgeous young #male-lion; #lion. Who is that behind him in frame 1? A vulture perhaps?
#impala - a juvenile before the horns have started to curve outward?
That is #buffalo
#dik-dik up close
#secretary-bird
#zebra in beautiful morning light.
Lovely #hippo shot
Could this be a striped hyena? Probably an aardwolf, but looks a little big.
Wow! I was so excited to see this come up just now. Now I just keep fingers crossed for a genet and a zorilla. And a striped hyena.
Great find!
Looks like they scored a treat!
Vegetation or animal moving in the center on the horizon?
That's gotta be warthog hair.
Wow!
Cute! Looks like maybe there is someone else back there eating on the left.
curious #giraffe
Checkout the airborne guy in frame 3. #wildebeest herd.
They are zebra.
Love this #buffalo photo
firehorse66 - there is no need to comment on every photo. Ones like grass, wind, blackness are not special and need no comment.
Such a random picture. #tommy #scratching on the right and #guinea-fowl on the left.
I think we should call this the #butterfly camera. Rarely see animals there, but butterflies are common.
What's this in the front right? Rodent? Bird? Hare? Sort of looks like a moving roasted turkey.
So cool!
Yes - looks like a warthog to me.
#bushbuck up close.
That one in the middle looks miserable.
I thought that was a tusk, but I was coding this one on my phone. Glad I guessed #warthog anyway. Thanks, David!
#elephant group with #calf
#young #reedbuck #selfie
#bird-other on a frequently used perch
Who is this under the tree?
#bird-other x2
I thought caracal too, @maricksu! Just a weird angle.
Beautiful #elephant having a nighttime snack
Whose ear is this on the right?
#aardwolf
Wow! That's a lot of #hartebeest. Didn't know they hung out in bigger herds.
I think I'd guess serval with that button nose.
Who is coming in on the left in frame three checking out the zebra? Could that be a lion mane?
Lovely #lion surveying the plain
#bushbuck nice image at night. Finally!
The whiskers were a dead giveaway. Thanks : )
#zebra, #gazelle, and #giraffe, oh my!

Is this #wildebeest checking out a kori bustard? Or bird-other?
serval ears?
Fantastic!
I figured. Thanks , tillydad 😃
#young #selfie
I got it!
#warthog And could that be someone up in the lower tree crook. Kind of looks like a tail.
#topi
#eland at night
#serval posing on the log. That log sees a lot of traffic!
#buffalo calf
Is that a striped lizard on the log?
I've still got my fingers crossed for a honey badger or waterbuck : )

That's quite the horn maneuver in frame 1. #tommy x2
Ah, well. It was worth a shot. Thanks : )
It found the perfect perch. Thanks for identifying 😃

#cheetah with what looks like some blood on his face
huge #zebra #herd by the log
That's a serious storm!
#white-tailed-mongoose
I'd guess warthog

This #tommy has decided to fly over the puddles.

Someone is under the tree in the middle, moving a tail. I'm guessing warthog. Thoughts?
Beautiful color! #topi

Four giraffe. I think there is also someone behind the front giraffe. Maybe Eland or hartebeest?

Probably a hippo, but I thought I'd have our experts take a look - Could this be rhino?
#bird-other. Dust bath?
Is that a warthog moving over on the left?
dik-dik or steenbok?
Cool!!
I guess aardwolf or hyena.
Who is resting by the tree? I guessed secretary bird.
Thanks! I had a moment of wishful thinking since I haven't gotten a waterbuck yet. At least not that I know of 😃
Lovely resting #hartebeest
any chance it is a waterbuck? Eh - probably a buffalo.
Adorable fluff ball!

#kori-bustard
extreme close-up #warthog
Look at how tiny the #warthog looks behind the #giraffe in this photo!
#elephant and ?
nice shot of a #bird-other (oxpecker?) sitting on #zebra
I'm thinking serval. The spots are not all perfectly round and symmetrical. What do our experts think?
#snake #reptile; Anyone know what kind?
Is that a little snake in the camera frame box?
#guinea-fowl head
Yes - agree #hartebeest
What's this? In frames 2 and 3 at the bottom right side. Maybe a mongoose or a rodent?
Gotcha! Those brainteaser noses and body parts.
#lion with #cub
@davidbygott - maybe good for your noses and lips collection? #wildebeest
I am still waiting for my first caracal photo to pop up. I'll be so excited. Porcupine too.
Pretty blue and green #bird-other in frames 1 and 2

#scratching zebra
Amazing photo!
Cool
#thomsons #scratching
#lion x3
Thank you! That helped- now I see it!
#vervet-monkey visiting the dik-dik tree
I am stumped by the white patch and the fuzzy bit on th L in Fr3. I was told that when I am in doubt the answer is often warthog. True here?
A nice close up of one of our resident #dik-dik
#spotted-hyena #selfie. Checking out the camera.
#male-lion on the prowl
Thanks! I thought it looked odd.
This one is amazing. 💗

#scratching - if someone still finds that useful
Yeah! Tagged them correctly.
I see one spotted hyena.
Has spots, but resting wildebeest not concerned. Kori bustard?
#giraffe - frame 2 such an awkward gait!
Oh no!
Look at these little guys!
Who are these #bird-other?
#thomsons-gazelle with bird friends. @davidbygott taught me these are #crowned-lapwing and make a "KREE-KREE-KREE!" sound. I'm learning : )
#bird-other framed nicely against the clouds in capture 3
#thomsons-gazelle surveying the plains
#bird-other. Any ideas?
Male in center certainly has his eyes on us!
Number 250?
peek-a-boo #selfie
#ostrich couple
#giraffe on the run.
Pretty sure it is a human holding up a #slate for time/date stamp.
I must be too tired to do this right now. Frame one over on the left - giant tumbleweed, bear, or what?
#interacting over there on the left?
Anyone see something dark and shiny in that dirt area to the right?probably just a rock, but I was wondering tortoise?

Topi?
#warthog on the run!
#scratching
I love it!
I've been fooled before. Rhino or or buffalo rear?
I can't tell who is resting under the tree.
Serval?
I can see that it could be a vulture. That would be my first vulture sighting on SS. Thanks!
Every time I see a shot from this camera I think , "oh that's the dik dik tree". This must be their home area.
Warthog under the tree?
#buffalo with young.
Zebra on the horizon line?
Terrific!
#selfie #gazelle
Thank you! That totally solved my visual perception problem 😃
Agree, but I am confused though how we see the front of one ear and the back of another!
Yeah - I wouldn't want to come up on one (or more!) of these guys in the dark!
So is this one Grant's gazelle hanging out with the tommies? or could it just be an oddly colored tommy?
Cool!
Wow! Great capture.
guinea fowl?
I just love this. : )
#spotted-hyena. A young one?
I agree - likely hyena
So special!
Amazing #cheetah #selfie close up in frames 2 and 3! Am I right that this looks like a young cheetah?
#bird-other with long tailfeather in frame 3
#topi running
looks like guinea-fowl to me
jackal tail on the left?
Bird at the bottom. Looks quite small for guinea fowl. What do you think?
Nice shot of a #spotted-hyena
wildebeest tail perhaps?
#elephant herd
#gazelle #selfie
This must be the same #dik-dik that is always hanging out by this same camera.
Can anyone identify the flying #bird-other? Looks big.
#elephants
#gazelle #scratching
My eyes are playing tricks on me - I see this as either a hippo or a lion. Or maybe a warthog.
Ideas?
What's this #leopard doing?
Nice!
Any guesses?
How common is the #aardwolf ? I feel like I am seeing more than I expected.
Is that a spotted someone or just a log?
#lion, #lion-male headed for the shade.

#baboon drinking
#tommie army

Reedbuck?
Weird dancing rainbow reflection. From camera?
A- I'd go for spotted hyena. (This is your fault that I am On here at 10pm!)
earlier, the cat somehow looked smaller, but now that you say cheetah, I see it. Amazing how it almost disappears in frame3. Thanks!
Interesting! Thanks.
#leopard leg!
Third frame - insect or bird?
#ostrich. Apparently a male in mating season.
Two #bird-other in flight and another small one sitting on the low hanging tree branch. Can anyone identify?

Looks like ribs
#secretarybird #selfie
kori bustard moving to the right of center?
#balloon
Can't identify. Help?
#topi and #hartebeest
Is that someone in the bottom left corner. There is no movement though
Someone just out of the light. Looks spotted. I am going with cheetah based on shape and spots, but what do you think?
#spottedhyena
Wow! Great serval shot.
I went cheetah because the leopard spots are more open and less solid.
#zebras hugging
#elephant; baby following mom in 3rd frame.
#bird-other in flight. Yellow feathers?
#buffalo herd; #bird-other flying
#grantsgazelle
good image of #hartebeest on the move

something hairy. I think I see some spots in frame 1. cheetah? hyena? lion?
what kind of bird?
Can't tell. Someone with brown hair is right up on the camera
leaping #topi (I think)
A couple of little guys moving under the tree. Mongoose? Birds?
#cheetah. Such perfectly round spots.
Perhaps a lion on the left at the back Of the flash. Perhaps nothing.
Hairy neck. Female Waterbuck??
I guessed mongoose, but could use some help here.
Something moving on the bottom.
What is that thing in the bottom left. I'm dying to know.
Too close to tell.
No idea. Way too close.
So hard to see. Looks like adult warthog standing on the left side and perhaps a smaller young warthog on the right.
Literally no idea
Not sure, but something cat or dog like.
Far away antelope. Coloring of Hardebeest?
Elephants (?) moving through in the background?
Hyena tail?
I think frames 2 and three have #cheetahcub? Frame 1 maybe looks like mom's tail?
Also something moving under the tree to the right.
Is that a spotted hyena in the back center looking at the camera? Maybe a serval? Or maybe absolutely nothing, but brush.
Three jeeps
A herd of something. I'm guessing wildebeest.
Is that some sort of small wildcat standing in the front center?
Something is moving through. No idea what it is, but looks small and dog-like.
I feel like it is a spotted cat. Head maybe too big for a cheetah so I guessed leopard. But I'm new to looking at these pictures!
Help?
#elephant
2 #zebra. One #biting the other
more #fire
#fire
Yes - I agree. I am now seeing some of these images from higher up cameras and getting used to the black and white night shots. Thanks : )
#human working x3
#vervet-monkey x4
large #wildebeest #herd
#giraffe
lion?
Nice #hippo
#jackal
#eland #zebra and #buffalo
#giraffe x2
Wow! Check out this beautiful #serval.
PS - I am even more confused by the season resuming when I see this photo was tagged 5 months ago.
What's the #topi over on the right doing? Plus #zebra and maybe impala in back.
#tommy in front with #elephant in back.
#warthog family with adorable #young. What are baby warthogs called? Hoglets? : )
Two #young #topi; #scratching with #zebra
Agree - I see the white dots on the side. Hashtag positive?
interesting #wildebeest caught in the camera flash. Very artsy.
#buffalo #interaction. Others just watching.
#vervet-monkey x3
little duiker face? potentially young reedbuck or bushbuck?
#guinea-fowl and #zebra x2 heads down in the rain
#hartebeest #scratching
#elephant x2
Or bird-other?
#elephant with #human driving by
#lion at the log
#wildebeest #interacting close to camera
Good photo!
I'm thinking too skinny and low (since this camera is on the ground). How about kori bustard?
#kori-bustard watching some #zebra
4 #topi including #young with #zebra friends
#lion on the log
Black and white horse-like #zebra
At least 3 #lion, maybe 4
What is this over to the right in frame one. Whatever it is, it leaves very fast.
I agree. Looks like elephant to me.
Looks like maybe 5 or 6 #guinea-fowl and I believe a bird-other on the tree to the left
Wow! Great one!
Wildebeest butt?
#slate
secretary bird?
Nice #hyena shot : )
I was thinking jackal?
I'd go with warthog. 😃
That's an #eland. Black bands on legs, dewlap, hairy hump above shoulders, faint stripes. : )
Did you guys see this one from earlier? I just took a second look and it is still a mystery to me.
Oh - I could see that. Heads up with ears visible in frame 1 then ears down in frame 2. Thanks : )
#aardvark
Who are these two?
#jackal, #black-backed-jackal on the move
Nice #bird-other taking flight
#slate
#jackal with #topi
Who is the fast runner?
Hippo
Pretty sure that's a # reedbuck rather than duiker. Larger size, reddish coloring, no black on muzzle....
#slate
What a great capture!
#eland up close
#elephant family with #young
looks like #smoke
Strange shot. #bird entering in bottom right corner in frame 2.
#giraffe knees
Any ideas on this one? The tail confused me.
#cheetah perhaps using the camera as a scratching post.
Three #hartebeest, two #zebra, and one #topi
#slate
Thanks, David and klallman! Thought duiker, but know they are uncommon here. Guess I should trust my gut. 😃
I still struggle with these little guys. Dik-dik? Or could this one be a duiker?
#serval on the hunt
#bat-eared-fox

beautiful #cheetah
#elephant
#ostrich x2 hanging out with a bunch of #zebra
Gorgeous!
I'd vote vegetation.
Thanks to all! : )
reedbuck with ear spot not visible? Or duiker perhaps?
#buffalo with #calf
Soggy #tommy herd. #gazelle
#serval tail
Looks kinda small for a serval. Any chance this is a genet sneaking by dik-dik corner?
#slate
#giraffe eating; a second standing in the back
Is that a leopard exiting far right? Definitely looks catlike.
Who is this? I went with hyena, but head in frame three made me question.
#slate
Gorgeous #eland : )
Nice #cheetah photo.
I went with jackal. Could be almost anyone, I suppose.
inquisitive #buffalo
Maybe dwarf mongoose?
Good eye!

Hmm. Went with waterbuck. What do you think, experts?
I think I see those bushbuck dots. Hashtag positive?
#bird-other in flight and another on the ground, I believe.
Surprise #giraffe in frame 3
#lion resting with #collar
Gorgeous!
Thanks, davidbygott. I'm just testing you and tillydad : )
this one just looked a bit different so had to ask.
Looks like #wildebeest and #giraffe
Is that a serval in the grass just under the horizon line left of center?
#jackal - could this be a golden wolf?
#black-backed-jackal
#elephant
I coded this an eland. But perhaps I moved too quickly - with these long smooth horns could this be a bushbuck?
#buffalo nose
Are all 5 #topi? 2 adults and 3 young?
#topi x2. Standing vs. moving.
#elephant
Love it!
#tommy #selfie
Ah yes. I see that now. Jumping rather than flying. # removed. Thanks!! 😊
Thanks, tillydad!
A playful kitty at heart. Thanks to all!
Hmm. I think I vote for a large dirty buffalo.
thanks, davidbygott. I like the positive spin. 🙂
#butterfly x2
I think I see 4 of them - two in the back, young male in front and an ear to the right in frame 3.
Think this is a cheetah based on the curve of the back when lightened.
Is that a bat over the #zebra?
#elephant shaking up the tree at dik-dik corner
#bird-other
Banded mongoose? @davidbygott - I have been searching for that great reference on the different types of mongoose. Could you re-post?
curious #eland
Four #giraffe on the move. And a bird-other flying behind the tree to the left.
beautiful #cheetah surprised by the camera perhaps
#grants-gazelle x5 hanging with #hartebeest

#slate
What's this in the front right? Rodent? Bird? Hare? Sort of looks like a moving roasted turkey.
So cool!
Yes - looks like a warthog to me.
#bushbuck up close.
That one in the middle looks miserable.
I thought that was a tusk, but I was coding this one on my phone. Glad I guessed #warthog anyway. Thanks, David!

#bird-other on a frequently used perch
Who is this under the tree?
#bird-other x2
I thought caracal too, @maricksu! Just a weird angle.
Beautiful #elephant having a nighttime snack
Whose ear is this on the right?
#aardwolf
Wow! That's a lot of #hartebeest. Didn't know they hung out in bigger herds.
I think I'd guess serval with that button nose.
Who is coming in on the left in frame three checking out the zebra? Could that be a lion mane?
Lovely #lion surveying the plain
#bushbuck nice image at night. Finally!

dik-dik or steenbok?
#slate
Cool!!
I guess aardwolf or hyena.
