Snapshot Serengeti Talk
#burn-scar
Nice #impala image. Looks like 1 male and the rest female.
One can almost miss the #giraffe standing along the upper right edge. The head just juts out with the tree foliage.
#slate
#female #lions #collar Doing what lions do.
something is popping its head up for a look on left edge. possibly a young cat. ideas?

Nice image, #reedbuck
I believe spotted hyena having some supper.
I think dikdik and that there is one to the right of the tree. I think I see head and eye.
#zebra parade
#grant-gazelle Now that is just funny. He looks as if maybe he is chewing on an old cigar! Yuk!
#giraffe Coming in for its photo appointment.
#buffalo and #wildebeest
#warthog
"Well, I'm glad my butt isn't as broad as hers is!" I decided 1 more then bedtime and I am blessed with this. What a sight. Pleasant dreams!
#giraffe
#elephant #selfie too bad the camera is low.
Is the #giraffe perhaps giving birth?
#giraffe dinner time!
Tail of a bird. They like to sit on the camera box.
#thomson #female are the animals that do that.
Maybe 3 lion cubs playing, or other animals attacking another?
looks like some wildebeest beard in v1, right side
Nice #female #impala image
Are these jackal?
#thomson-gazelle Press play and watch tommie behind the hill. It is playing peak-a-boo or similar game. 😃
king of the hill
#cheetah
They are females that have them. Just #collar when you see them. They do like us to note them.
The young elephants rest like that with adult females hovering around.
#thomson gazelle View 1 is a nice group portrait.
Is that like maybe a jackal with a white tip tail running beside the grant gazalle?
#bird
sideways #selfie
bird tail feathers
is v2 possibly catching maybe an eye and across the bridge of the nose?
I missed it before I clicked but believe there's maybe a gazelle about 1/3 over from the right.

I don't know if I am explaining what I am thinking correctly. We are seeing 2 legs counting as 1 and possible thinking tree branch is a leg
of both back legs. The same in the front. The tree has a thick trunk branching to the right which may almost look like the l front leg.
I think they look so be because in the back the left leg is sitting just forward of the right from our view, so we are seeing the width of
A younger buffalo. Their horns aren't developed like an adults yet. The one on the left does not have mature horns either.
#beautiful-sunrise
a trio of #hippos
#Grant
both, It's a #butthead Actually, 2 animals, as zebra often do, standing side by side facing opposite directions. #zebra
#aardvark
#guinea-fowl Red and blue head. It's hard to see black with white speckled body in the grass.
#impala you can faintly see black ear tips.
The #impala is subadult so the horns look different from that of a mature male. Impala are often seen at this camera.
#Grant gazelle
#warthog short, thin tail, part of ear showing fits.
#wildebeest view 3 on the 4th animal from left, you can see the typical horn of wildebeest.
likely Thomson considering height and no line going from outer edge of eye.
#lioness #collar
legs just looked shorter than usual. Of course we only had the backend of animal and 1 view heading into darkness. Not to make excuses!
looks quite low slung. I took a wild guess and said civet. I could be way off.
look at the guide again. They have the red/blue face/the helmet on the head. on view 3 you can see the white speckles on the rear end
It's a #guinea-fowl It's in the guide.
#eland
I was thinking crowned at first, but without movement and in the dark it is really hard to tell. Birds just aren't my thing, either.
I thought it had the thickness for the leopard, just seemed a bit large for serval.
There is a #serval that hangs out on that log at night a lot. It is likely that.
#impala look at the rump pics of impalas. The tail matches
#lions sleeping
maybe leopard tail, or serval
Something moving up and down slanted tree on the left. possibly #vervet monkey?
#warthog #impala
maybe black-winged-plover ?
No, this is a #wildebeest
#wildebeest all standing in rows with their "parking lights" on
...their appearances. It is too much to list here. I got my information from safaritalk.net/topic/10579 horns vary, other markings vary
I have always wondered about that so I finally looked it up. There are 5 subspecies, or races and they have subtle differences in...
black ear tips are your clue to it being an impala.
A lot of these animals have different horn shapes when they are juveniles. As they mature, the horn changes. It can throw one off.
#ostrich They are so tightly packed together they are hard to count. I believe there are at least 8.
an #elephant on a mission. It looks to be traveling rather quickly, also has that compact, young, look. I think. Could be wrong.
#reedbuck
ok, now I see it. I also googled images of scratching hartebeests to see how the leg could be that horizontal!
Uncertain, but maybe a #ring-necked-dove
...My vote is a young #wildebeest.
I wish we could see more of the head, but I do believe it is too slender and tall, not stocky enough to be a buffalo. The mane too long,...
Most likely #hartebeesst chest
2 animals, one in front of the other, scratching an ear. They look like maybe hartebeest?
I see some stripes on the back end. My thoughts are #serval
a great #impala rump view showing the distinguishing markings.
see below, warthog, hairy
#selfie
This piece of tree is the site of a lot of animal activity! You never know which ones you will find. The lion family, various birds, etc
just wanted to be sure I was using a correct "marker"
@tillydad I wonder about this being a Thomson. I went with #Grant because of marks showing on both sides of the eyes. What do you think?
Look like grant horns
What looks like grant in center of pic. 2 groupings- 1 directly behind, and 1 to right of it. Possibly more grants.
a gazelle, maybe thomson
More likely #buffalo They look to be buffalo horns, not eland.
#slate 4/16/2014
#Eland #male #a-different-view
interesting shot
#slate 2/13/2014
Grant Look at the eye, you see the black line continues on either side. No black on eartips so not impala. The one in back left is Thomson.
I believe wildebeeset facing left. Looks like there is some mane on the back, and maybe beard.
reproducing after their kind! 😃
I love these birds when they inspect the camera. They really seem to be "looking through" to us on the other side. At least to me they do!
beautiful sunrise. several antelope, I believe Grants.
#birds
Could it be eland? I believe they have a black stripe on abdomen and I think I see one, although the glare makes it hard to tell.
...and the body shape is more ox-like if it were an eland
See the dark vertical stripes coming from the mane? That is indicative of wildebeest, also the tail you see. eland=white vertical stripe...
now, if they only wanted butt selfies, this would be perfect!
It looks like he has his black socks on!

"It" glows in the dark" My guess is reedbuck
Height indicates Thomson. You can see hint of darkness above front legs, & back of right side. Grants are much taller than this.
Horns like this are rather common on female tommies.
Yes, frequently seen in mixed groups. You really have to look because young grants have the same markings on the side until they mature.
#slate 1/10/2014
#slate 1/11/2014
It looks like a herd of wildebeest in the back, so the animal off to the side is likely a wildebeest also.
#lioness
You know I just had that pic and was wondering the same thing. I think fog, you don't see any movement between the pics.
Reedbuck?
Maybe baboon? I've seen them hang around that camera trap I believe.
mane. There are some faint vertical stripes coming down from its mane, only elands have.
Sorry, No, This is an #eland Look at the top of his front legs, you can see a dark horizontal stripe. A dewlap on the chest and the type...
The darkness certainly adds to the mystery of it, that's for sure!
Likely another thomson. If it were a lion the thomsons would not be standing there so calmly. 😃
#baboon He sits for the camera. Maybe twiddling his thumbs?
The #wildebeest are on the move!
#wildebeest #sniffing-the-camera
#wildebeest you can see the beard on the animal on the left
It looks like they are. Their herds can get pretty big. I can see some horns when I enlarge that look like impala horns.
#thomson #grants #hartebeest
#knocked-over-camera
#dikdik
Mixed group of #grants and #Tommies gazelles.
#impala Ear tips are black, it is immature so the horns are different than the pictures show. Horizontal stripe on the side.
#lion maybe a wound on his back.
#buffalo returning from a visit to the spa for its mud treatment.
I saw that too, Jinx, wondered if it was the Lion's or the zebra's?
I'm so used to seeing them stretched out that I didn't know they could curl up that much! It does look like it is a #black-headed-heron
I love this camera trap. You find such varied species here. The impala and dislike are frequent visitors.
Did you guys see I found the elusive rhino last night? The whole profile! Not just an ear or horn! #dailyzoo
LOOK AT THIS! #rhino The first time I've found one and tagged it!
#slate 5/1/14

#slate 1/27/14
At least 9 #elephants marching through!
#slate 4/24/2014
#warthog Watch the tongue!
Lioness with a collar to the left?
not a golf club. It is a tool with a blade for cutting. You will occasionally see a weed whacker too.
#wildebeest
Everything I see is buffalo. At least 4. Likely not predators or these guys in front would be scattering! The eyes glowing- buffalo - horns
#slate 2/19/14
hartebeest
It is standing, but the grass is tall around it.
#error #black
yes
walking along side I believe
maybe hippo
#black-backed-jackal There is something lying on the ground over to the right, maybe another?
#elephants At least 8 of them. #privates-on-parade
#grant-gazelle impalas have black on tip of ears
interesting #shadows One on animal and one on ground.
a ton on #flies on the #impala
#error
Sometimes they look just like spots, but when real enlarged they do have a bit of a rosette look. I just don't know. I think size is cheetah
I thought so too, had it labeled that way, and then got convinced it wasn't so took me label off! 😦
Too tall for lion, but the sequences before and after are from different dates. But I do think it is wildebeest
Big and ox-like with a dewlap. Horns with one turn = #eland
cubs have stripes/spots on them. It helps to camouflage them when they are young
Yes, but you will see the tawny eagle, serval, the lions and a lot of other wildlife hang out around that log! Must be a nice tree behind.
I don't believe I have ever seen so many together at one time before.
The light rump makes me think of hartebeest. On the one with the yellow eyes the lower legs look dark, which hartebeest also have.
I believe #impala
I recently read that they like to rub their faces in the ground and it spreads scent from facial glands.
Multiple people see these and classify them so it all washes out in the end.
stripes, The only animal in the serengeti with them is a #zebra
#slate 11/19/13
With the height of the camera, I wonder if it is a Grant gazelle.
#impala
An image where you can see these animals more clearly. ASG001f6gg
Most likely part of the same herd.
#impala rumps-see just to R of big tree, pattern matches impala. Black tips to the ears, horizontal stripe on side. They frequent here.
Do the best you can and remember several people see and evaluate each picture.
More likely scratching. It would be lowering hips a bit peeing.
A #giraffe party! I count 5 of them altogether.
As noted below #serval When I come to discussion trying to figure an ID, I scroll down to see if anyone has already ID'd it. This time, yes
perhaps a black-bellied-bustard
That would be my conclusion. Stocky animal, thin fur, legs on the shorter side. What you can see of the head matches.
That's ok, as you can see, a few also do it. If you just want to show something cool, that is ok too. But you don't have to do the job x 2!
#white-tailed-mongoose
Something drew its attention to the camera?
If you classify them and check human, or what ever they are, you don't need to bring every image over unless there are questions or comments
#slate 3/4/2013-or-2014 I believe date on slate looks like 2013 but captured date on screen lists 2014
one twist in the horns, it's an #eland
They have been picking up the bad habits of Harry, and Harriet Hartebeest! Just standing for hours in front of a camera.
It is often the way the female horns grow. They don't use them for fighting as males, so they are "going away" in females.
...head that is supposed to face the camera!
I'm convinced that even though I believe hartebeest had something to do with inventing the selfie, they just haven't figured it is their...
male #impala Tons of privates shots this year!
#slate 11/13/13
The ones you can distinguish are and they usually hang together.
#slate 2/24/14
body size, stripes at neck, more likely serval
In all the images I have looked at I have never seen a shadow on the animal like that! 😃
#bird other They like to sit on the boxes holding the cameras.
Did you see the one on the left edge? I see 3 for sure, and wonder about a possible 1 or 2 more. They are so still, and blended-in.
No horses in Serengeti, actually they are all zebras, you can see stripes on all of them.
#marabou-stork
Nice group of #female #impala
...then click on question Why we don't have unidentifiable option. There is a reason for the set-up
But the thing is there are animals there. #eland See back of leg, the stripe. you need to make best guess. Go to discussion board, FAQ then.
#eland See stripe on back of front leg and single twist in horn?
Yes, especially the buffalo. They are like fly paper.
no, #wildebeest See the vertical stripes coming from mane? That is your indicator.
shaggy beard= #wildebeest lying down= sleeping, resting
See below, #White-tailed-mongoose
Yep! # wildebeests are the only animals with that shaggy beard! Also their head profiles are very distinctive, rather convex. 😃
#lioness #collar #lion
#slate 11/9/14
#slate 11/16/13
#hartebeest There is also one resting behind which increases likelihood.
#hartebeest, they are into selfies. They invented them. You often get their private parts in front of the camera like that! Will stand hours
Over on the blog you can find some information about them. Not all females have them. The radio collar helps them locate the lions.
#lioness #collar This group is in a study that has been going on for decades. When you see the radio collar mark as I just did.
#slate #11/16/13

#lioness #collar #naptime
What are these two animals on bottom right? They look sort of fluffy with tails. Maybe about the size of the guinea hens.
Looks like it. The young lie down to sleep and the moms hover around or over them.
The young lie down to sleep and the mothers hang out with them, looking after them while they rest.
#wildebeest beard
Related to two other images taken several minutes apart. Moderator ID'd it as #Cheetah. ASG0017bul and ASG0017bsk
Related to ASG0017bsk @ 11:47 which moderator said is #Cheetah, related to ASG0017bsi @ 11:45 All 3 same animal
#lioness #collar If they have a collar, they are female.
#francolin?
There are literally thousands of pics of fire and scorched earth. Scientists are interested in the wildlife 😃
#guinea-fowl Didn't know these birds actually flew. Thought they just toddled around!
#topi
#Tommie a great view of a Tommie' s facial features.
A whole group of us classify each photo so one person making a mistake is nothing to be concerned about. 😃
Classified animals from the last pg don't need posting here unless there are questions, comments , or observations. Except for more detail:-)
They use various tools to maintain the grass in front of the camera so as not to obstruct the view, or make the camera misfire.
Cutting vegetation down that is in front of the cameras so it doesn't obstruct view or trigger the camera by the movement of something warm.
#bird #crorned-plover?
#fighting
#bushbuck
#lion see ASG00165i9 and ASG00165i3 they come and hang out for hours!
I agree with you about this camera spot. You see the most varied animals here. It is just a sublime, place of beauty, luscious, and green!
#eland, the marking are a black band behind the front legs. topi the markings are patches on shoulders and hips that encircles legs 😃
#baboons I only saw the one on the left and in the center. The ones in the tree I missed until I came over here and enlarged. 😦
@ 1:24 see ASG0012x3j yes, a #hartebeest, no doubt
#leopard

You can also see the single spiral in the straight horn a clue to the #eland ID.
Maybe moon on horizon.
Unusual #elephant view.
Bright spot in center? Reflection of flash on vegetation in front of camera so you see workcrews hacking it down periodically. ASG0014nig
any thoughts, David? serval or wildcat?
#superb-starling is my guess.
ASG0015tf3 It was noted #topi present. I've seen 2 in the crowd. ASG0015td5 ASG0015te9 ASG0015tg9 are some related photos.
more hartebeest. Other pics show there were at least 6 in that group for several hrs.
I'm using small tablet & hard to see, but I believe that's a #warthog. ASG0018for @6:55
#melanistic-serval? I believe this is the same camera that captured it before!
I see ASG0017fbx @ 3:50 and ASG0017fbt @ 3:53, just saying. And if ele, where is tail?
ASG0014frd yes, #elephant, #Dung #ele #young #resting The young rest lying down. The link shows another near time adding insight.
ASG00185e0 Same day about an hour apart, #cheetah
ASG0017fcz ASG0017fc0 both show zebras walking nearby same day, near time. The skin has this same type of appearance - wrinkly. #zebra
#hippo
lovely pic
The on on the right is not yet mature. Many of these animals start with a straight or near straight horn then develop curves w/ age.
#Secretary-bird
@ maoa86 - See ASG0014d6x rear of impala showing black center of tail w/ extending fur which could look narrow if tucked in
#lion #Male
sub-adult wildebeest?

Oh, but the family was nearby! See ASG0014k1g
perhaps #dwarf-mongoose - although you cannot see much of it.
#lion mane
#Grant mug shot-look straight ahead, look to the left, look to the right!
Yes, #zebras
#crowned-plover?
It's an #impala #youth. That is why the horns look different. Many of the species have different looks to adult and subadult horns.
exploring the camera
An #impala convention!
That is the rump of an #impala
The potential for one heck of a headache, I should think! As a migraine sufferer, it makes me have one looking at it!
David, about horns again. Is it possible this horn is actually growing back into the skull, or just the appearance?
Hey @ Brittany, it's ok! We all make mistakes. Being out there, making the try, that's when we learn. I have made some grand errors! 😉
Nice #eland photo showing dewlap , single twist in the horns
Yes it is. Go over in the science board and look for post" large spread fire on plain" and read it. It tells why the fires are set.
#elephants #moms #babies #youths #aunts #napping
#wildebeest, I believe. See the hump on the shoulder? And there is a mane and a stripe like pattern. Read wildebeest description. 😃
With a mane like that, #warthog
ASG000og16 There are a couple that reside in this sheltered area. In photos I've seen they're in places more like this in daylight.
I didn't clarify myself, was trying to express they were in a more open area in daylight. Seems it's usually a more wooded area in daylight?
unusual, #dik-dik in open in daylight
In v1 it looks as if the #grant in center is ready to charge after the one on R. In 2 & 3 it stands there so calmly.
from what I discern, yes, small, thus the animal above is female impala since grant and thomson would have horns. Smaller than the female's
Oh, that's a really good one!
Maybe the grant is telling the tommies who is in charge?
#serval?
#dwarf Mongoose Maybe
I thought that! I miss seasons 5 & 6 when you could find pics taken just before and after. I learned a lot from those views!
#tommie Seems like he sees his reflection.
#topi leg
I believe #adult #elephant and #youth #elephant resting .Dung in center and maybe it's raining?
#elephant tending the bushes. 😃
#eland #oxpeckers
#impala. I didn't realize how wide their tails including fur are when flattened like that. V2
#waterbuck
Nice #Caracal. Not just ears, wish it were full daylight.
#impala A great shot showing the back view and markings!
#bird? I believe this is the animal we have been seeing from this camera. Looks like it is lifting something.
Sorry, No, actually it wasn't as I was using a small 7" tablet and could not enlarge it. Played it over and over and didn't want to ask for
Is this a zebra crossing paths with some gazelle, or is something else going on here?
#zebras Are these young zebra on the ground? I see the one on the left looks like it has brownish fur on the back.
HA! my bad, so sorry. Was so interested in explaining how to classify if cows I didn't look close enough! I paused, but kept moving! 😦
Thanks for the tip on the eye color!
Some type of cat, maybe #serval?
They are cows. Classify as human (because of the human influence) then come over here to discussion, if no one else has mark #cows
So best to mark it this way #lioness #collar If we see any with collar on they ask us to ID them this way - only females have them 😃
#lion?
Yes the movement does make it seem like dead prey. Upon looking through pics I found it was linked to ASG0015gxe - and that was decided.
Ha! I was stuck in a daydream looking @ that rock or whatever sitting there and forgot to see if it showed up in other pics! Seeing things!
#southern-ground-hornbill?
I was wondering about that too, but something just made me think a diff. animal. But then I doubt they would be that close if anything but.
Animal behind, could it possibly be #b-e-fox? Can't figure what else has coat like that, but I am usually wrong on that call.
#reedbuck Is that a wound on the left hip?
Looks like some sort of greenish #reptile off to the left of center. Head of a lizard, or perhaps a snake? Are there frogs there?
Jackal is what came to mind 1st, but didn't think their snout that pointed. I wondered about angle+height, made me think it was prey.
Maybe the underside of the chin of a #B-E-fox?
#lions?
Anyway possible it could be a warthog? View 3 reminds me of a warthog mane and ear, Don't know if they have flies. View 2 the ear.
Dedication!
thanks, gang, I was wondering too, You see what look like eyes, then maybe pointed ears, etc. I do appreciate your help!
Does that look like some animal in the front, center, maybe like a #jackal head?
Are you asking for someone else's wild guess? If so, mine would be #warthogs, 4. They feed on their knees-so the slant, have skinny tails.
I believe a #grants gazelle. The white on rump extends up onto the back and the black at the top/side of the rump is wide like a grant.
Likely #wildebeest On view 2 to the left of center it looks like wildebeest beard hairs showing in triangle.
Thanks, I thought it was some type of dove but could not find it on the guide and was searching the internet!
Bird
zebras have tail like that but you would see stripes , so you have wildebeest or buffalo. I'd guess #wildebeest I could be wrong. Guess!
You can get a lot of info. It is a tall animal, dark fur, with a long straight tail. Look at the backside pics of animals that fit that.
You don't need to hashtag the burned pics. Someone just started doing it and others have followed. There are probably thousands of them
So what you do is #lioness #collar Then they know there is a pic of a female lion with a collar on it. All the collars are on females.
Yes, I guess they would be a familiar sight! Usually I remember to consider camera height but forgot until I ruled out all herbivores!
#buffalo? big & bulky with thin fur
Something looks different, is this #reedbuck or something else?
I'm stumped, is it outside or inside an animal's mouth? Just can't place that angled orange line! Help please. Bird close up?
I believe leopard. Cheetah has lines along either side of nose. Cheetah spots are round and these look more the rosette of leopard.
I've done over 26,000 classifications and I believe this is the first wildcat I have found!
#wildcat?
Maybe #African gray hornbill
perhaps some type of #hornbill?
Help, please, what is this?
Can't decide if there is something in upper right corner or not.
What is the significance, scientific or otherwise of a "branchbomb"? I Don't get the point of them being hashtagged. Why do you do that?
impalas do have a black area on their rump. I think this may be the upper rump of a grant gazelle where the white extends up onto the back.
I wonder if it could be a grey-breasted spurfowl.
Tail feathers of bird resting on camera box?
#grants #broken horn
Is it common for so many to hang out in a tree together like that?
Looks like 5 or so #birds up in the tree.
what is it?
that is not a hartebeest tail. looks like eland tail.
ideas?
something little, I selected rodent but am not sure, suggestions?
Is this a #thomson rump?
Correct
At the tree on the left, Are there a couple more giraffes back in there. Or is it all the tall grass swaying?
#Thomson #sniffing for signals
Looks like the grass is taller and with the sun shining brightly it is likely a wildebeest that looks gray and short as a rhino would.
In view 3 between rump + tail there seems to be a gray, short animal. Poor view, I wonder, could it be a think? Ideas
#maintenance
#dikdik, I believe.
MAybe knocked off &is sitting on ground next to vegetation? You can see a slight movement, possibly grass.
I believe Ribcage was speaking of bird-other, possibly not noticing which is view #1?
#male #lion
Is there any kind of a red lizard in the serengeti?
Perhaps a #spotted hyena? Upper left corner looks like there are the beginnings of spots. They also have mane like fur as this does.
So I had the general idea after how many attempts, but the wrong animal! I was convinced it was a head nodding for the longest time. Haha!
"Harry, should more animals get the chance to have their pictures taken?"
ok, the armpit of a zebra? maybe up under front right leg?
But then again I could be way off. It's late at night and I have insomnia!
I believe it's a Tommie. On the left, center there is a reflection, perhaps eye? View across the left cheek. The neck in center bottom, maybe
#hare
#spotted hyena Is he coming in to "eat" the camera?
thanks!
Whose nose is it, #giraffe?
#giraffe #picnic This is the biggest crowd I have seen in one pic.
Close encounters of the #Thomson gazelle! In your face!
Is that a #bird up in tree? Upper right corner.
I've seen multiple pics of dikdiks frolicking around in view of this camera and a lot of impalas too.
2 #birds #hanging out with the #thomson gazelle. Could they be Heuglin's courser?
I love this area, it is a regular animal playground-crossroads! You spot so many of the species from the list here, and it is beautiful!
#Thomson gazelle and #infant
#lion #female looks like maybe a #youth
"DANGER, DANGER, I say it's time we bug out of here! I picked enough goodies out of this ground, and don't want to singe my feathers!"
Horns look like impala, animal is dark + looks shaggy. I'm using a small Kindle + can't get a good view - input?
great #young #Waterbuck
#tawny eagle I believe
correct
Just passing on info. Kosmala said in ASG0012cs9 to do it this way. She is the scientist, so it must be what she prefers
Use buffalo or human, then bring to discussion and #cow. That gets the scientists what they want.
#bushbusk pair. See twist in horns. white spots on hips and stripe on chest.
Nice #Grant's gazelle capture!
I had a regular honey badger show up a couple of days ago. Last yr I saw none. Some interesting things this year!
I see there is such thing as a black honey-badger. They are usually seen in Ghana, and NW Congo.
the key is bringing them to this discussion pg and using the # and cow so they have them categorized. That is my understanding of it.
#fire #smoke
Something is there in the lower left corner. I put lion I think I see mane, but there is what looks like a face there, and not a lion. help?
Nice capture of #giraffe eating.
Look @ ASG0012cs9 and see what scientist Kosmala said about it.
Thanks for your help David. I figured that line was a clue but couldn't put it together!
They are very social, and look out for one another. They swat the flies from each other so they stand head to each other's rump.
See post by Kosmala-scientist responding to too far away to identify, under The Objects. I don't know how to make the link.
If you are talking about way over on the horizon, ignore them. They didn't trigger camera. There is a post in discussions about this issue.
#bird in frame 2
Neat sky, storm brewing!
The black is the muzzle & not the nose itself? The ID pic makes it look so elongated, but I see ones on web that don't always look so long.
I find these that catch the flash are hard to ID at times. Could this be a #genet or a jackal? Please help me ID
Playing hide and go seek in an open field! 😃
...then that presents the question, "Do we ever really grow up?" And then there are those of us unfortunately who end up back in diapers ðŸ˜
We always hand rolled the windows down when we passed a field of cows & yelled moo @ them when on vacation as children!
Hard to see clearly, seem dark w/ white on face. Are they #waterbuck Open for ideas?
they have not mastered the unison head nod!
#giraffe "wiggle"
nice capture of #buffalo and "friend" #oxpecker
What was the major ID clue? The red in the wing during flight?
I've classified a lot of photos and it is the 2nd honey-badger. I did a double take!
Both, animal lower left corner is a Tommy. The black tail, NO WHITE extension up over rump. One behind is grants
#eland - swarms of insects!
#grants gazelle - see how the white extends up onto the rump? Plus look @ the side view in the ID pg for the grant. This guy has the marks!
#bird in 2 frame
#honeybadger
August 5/6 there was one big fire come through here. I don't know if it was average for the area. There are a lot of photos!
#female lion
Correct, vertical stripes are your clue.
Nice #lion #female image
#fire
I think that zebra was walking up close to it as those were taken. ASG0012hze taken next day, I think with that camera.
#reedbuck- I believe I see an earspot there?
#female #lion taking a look at things.
This #hartebeest is confused, allowing itself to be fully seen by the camera. Instead of is it a hartebeest or is it not a hartebeest!
#shadow seems to be from animal in front to the right.
I marked as #eland It appears there is a twist in the horns and the thin mane, I could not think of any other to fit.
I don't remember ever seeing one sit on a face like that before!
#eland #infant #young It looks like the eland have started to copy the hartebeest and "hang out" in front of the camera!
ASG000qvd8 I don't know if this could be the one or not. That flash on it really makes it hard to figure the orientation. I usually can't.
Might it be that buffalo w/ the broken horn? Are we looking @ the top of the head (base of the horns) where the white out is? Wild guess?
#burned
#smoke
Those hartebeest are well hidden!
Rest time at mother-child #wildebeest playgroup.
#dikdik They look like little household pets. I've seen websites with them in carrier crates, how awful!
Such a beautiful #sky
maybe an #antenna?
#Wildebeest family photo with new baby!
#immature #hartebeest
#orange field flowers
The color seems so dark, wish they were a little closer. Topi or they remind me of #waterbuck but I can't see the white on the face.
#male #lion taking an evening stroll
On classify pg choose one that is similar to it such as buffalo, and select discuss, then on this pg use #cow - that will mark it for them.
Image with several species. Do not think I have ever seen a hartebeest resting on the ground before.
I believe #kori bustard
Almost an hour before, in ASG000yqvz - in view 3 - impala watches a dikdik go by! A great photo. This camera captures many different species
Unless of course the birds charge the buffalo for each bug they rid them of! What's the going rate/bug?Maybe a free ride for 20 bugs?
#topi - horns curve up & back, dark patches on shoulders & hips
Rump doesn't look right color for impala, #dikdik more likely, also ASG000yqw3 looks like dikdik eye spot moment's later.
You can see better if you follow this link. Cutting the grass in front of the camera trap so it is not in the way of the photo. ASG000yrne
Correct. see - ASG000y6ps - 3 mins later. They are wildebeest standing there!
Dah! In view 2, while flying, it looked bigger to me in the sky and I tried to match a wing pattern! Can't wait for the new season to start.
Are the birds in this photo white storks? I'm trying to work on my bird IDs while waiting for the next season to begin.
#guinea fowl
If you mean on the bottom right, I believe it is the flash reflecting on some vegetation. ASG0011mtt and other views also show it.
#eland - oxlike, vertical stripes on sides, dewlap, twist in horns, black marks on back of front legs are clues.
#zorilla
Just scratching an itch, I believe.
No, but the #hartebeest are camera hogs. They enjoy standing for extended periods of time in front of them & it keeps tripping the cameras.
Some birds eat insects off of the animals _ oxpeckers. Other birds just use the animal as a perch - wattled starlings
A great #eland pic showing the typical id marks! Plus mugging for the camera.
no, #buffalo
#eland That band on the back of the front legs is your clue. A zebra is a black /white vertical striped animal. Look through the ID photos
I believe they started the modern trend of the "selfie" and carried it to an extreme! And we humans think we are so smart.
young #hartebeest the horns change as they mature. An eland would have stripes on back of front legs and be more ox like.
#waterbuck the white under the chin and on nose, and white on rumps are a clue. Bushbucks would have spots on their sides.
Yea, thought maybe I saw a warthog ear sticking up there too.
Traveling down the "hippo highway" ! Coming from or going to the watering hole! Look out for that hartebeest taking the continuous selfie!
Plus their tails are different. eland has tuft on end as above. Topi has a feathery, then tuft. You can see them on the example photos.
#eland They are tan/gray, the bands are on the inside of front legs. Topi are red/brown, blackish markings on outside of hips and shoulders
#lioness She came @ 8:00 see ASG00111x3 pawed around see ASG00111x7, took a nap and left @ 12:34 see ASG00111xd
Looks like warthog tail. height seems right, just cannot see the body or face! That would be my guess.
#lion ear
I believe there are 4 giraffe in center and 2 more to the right. A previous pic shows 6 of them. ASG000yqf2
The last time this camera was upright working well was on 2/14 and the eles were closing in on it, see ASG00112p1 Then things got weird.
Attacked by some of the animals, the elephants and the hyenas often do this, you can read about it in the blog history.
Any doubt about it see ASG0010hca #elephant for sure!
Not grants, #impalas, look at rump markings, dark ear tips, horizontal stripe, this tree area often has impala
I can't believe I finally saw a honey-badger! I know these are old pics, but I didn't see these guys before.
white-headed buffalo weaver on left and 2 guinea fowl I believe.
Look @ the size of the leg, it is thick and slow moving and tall! It is an #elephant ASG0011207 taken @ 9:13
Most likely another zebra!
Wildebeest have a totally different outline, taller, thinner, a hump at the shoulder. They have subtle vertical stripes, and a beard.
Yes, these are buffalo. See how stocky, horizontal, solid color. See ASG0011k54 several minutes later. ASG0011k56 @ 12:34
The moderator said it was in a post below.
Perhaps Thomson. In ASG0011a6v @ 9:47 it looks like a Tommy, I don't think there is the upper eye line in this pic.
more #warthogs See ASG00106ui @ 10:19, ASG00106uj @ 10:31. When there is 1 there are usually others around.
#topi horns not fully matured
They are walking R to L. a Baboon would have a distinct tail curve upward then down. I think they have their noses to the ground.
It is #bushbuck. I believe it is young. Look at the big ears and color pattern. White stripe on low neck. reedbuck has dark spot under ears
#warthogs, not baboons. See ASG000y70q and ASG000y70r taken mins later. There is also one to the left in this view.
#elephant See the thick legs? Also see ASG000z7kc 2 mins earlier.
black-backed jackal, I believe
#hartebeest ASG000zj1u
#wildebeest see faint stripes in the fur?
#hartebeest (Harriet) they stand for long periods of time in front of cameras, see ASG000ziia @ 6::59
#wildebeest see ASG000zixy about 2 min later
Male #reedbuck
I wonder how much the #baby #elephant weighs?
#leopard This cat hung out for around 9 hrs!
There are 2 over there for a total of 3. See ASG000oijx
#lion See ASG000smvp a few minutes later
nice #reedbuck photo
#wildebeest checking things out
#eland posing for family portrait!
how about "I see you looking at me, looking at you, looking at me, looking at you, looking at me!
nice #serval
Haha, I was using a little tablet & it looked like an antelope with head turned, no chance to enlarge &see. Good I asked.
#lizard
#beautiful #sky I enjoy seeing the different appearances of the sky and grasses surrounding this tree.
#bushbuck and baby....White spots on flank
Is this a #duiker? Looks like it has darker face.
Nice pic! They look so sweet. #dikdik perhaps mother and youth
They are #buffalo, horizontal along back, not sloped, & stocky. ASG0011k54 about 7 min later shows a good view of heads. No doubt!
I like the hartebeest reference, that was good! Went over me at first, I thought you were calling the ellie a Hbeest!
great pic of #porcupine
A herd of #impala had just been through with many young. It could be some of the young resting. ASG000zsoc
The flash reflecting off the vegetation and I believe an #elephant is over in the left. See ASG000n0da This is an elephant hang out.
#Lioness #collar
See the stripe on back of legs? That's your clue. #eland
Thought to be tail feathers of some bird/owl
thought hartebeest but 1/2 hr later ASG000n91w a #topi & young was ID'd and these are the pair!
#serval This place is a hang out for the serval or the tawny eagle. Interesting pair. ASG000zwfu
I was so fascinated by this zebra's pattern, I missed the others hanging in the back. It seems to have more white than most zebras we see.
#lion I think with a #collar
Who knows what's next? I am starting to think they can see me when they are staring into the cameras-skyping!
Maybe the animals are taking over!
HaHa! Caught in the act! It just goes to show the merits of "security cameras".
Yes, #impala See ASG000z7ox just moments before
#eland but is there something on the ground to the right?
light reflected off the vegetation. See ASG0010kja
Unless there is a whole "family" of buffalo with broken horns this particular buffalo shows up in a lot of photos!
#waterbucck
I believe #spotted hyena
maybe side of #hippo face
Clicked through too quickly & missed the zebra in my face!
#thomson gazelle close encounters!
#bird-tail
#eland checking out the camera! Really showing an interest.
I believe #impala after looking at ASG000yrqh
Nice profile of grant's gazelle
#lioness & cub Maybe another resting on the ground?
#bird close-up
Didn't think the coloring/pattern looked quite right for serval but had to guess something. These unusual bird presentations just get me!
ASG000spa8 is a hartebeest and around 5 min later so this is probably that hartebeest.
#wildebeest see ASG000zixq
Maybe #serval?
Because of ASG000oj1t I say human.
#wildebeest nose, missed it in the classification.
Missed what looks like Thomson in front right.
#zebra Sort of looks like it has 8 legs doesn't it? HAHA
Hey, at least it was a photo of a leopard and not the front end of a real live one coming at ya!
#lion stretching, scratching, resting in the shade
Took a wrong guess. I should have known this is #hartebeest. They are usually so front and center!
#hartebeest Didn't hang around long. He was only there about 20 min. Not long for a hartebeest, they be so photogenic!
Great photo of #impala showing rump pattern and back of leg color, also tip of ear.
I think it just shook it up! In ASG000st75 about15 or so min. later, the camera is still up & the "little-critter" is just walking away.😃
I believe it is. You can see those ridges around the trunk.
I believe this Grant's is trying to do a chiropractic self-adjustment! Shake that pinch right out of my neck!
#elephant
An #elephant family? If you follow through there are multiple pics of up to 8 of them!
Well, I finally got the #duiker photo. I used reedbuck on classification pg.
Yea, I was just thinking I have never seen so many in one photo before!
From body size, I'm thinking maybe #warthog
Oh, look, a #zebra with its head and rear on the same end! 😃
The pest of grass growing in front of cameras! 😃
Maybe #steenbok It looks like there is possibly some coloration in center, but also looks like eyespot there too but not invert v on nose
I thought duikers have that dark spot up their faces?
guessed wrong on this, it is a #warthog
Harry/Harriet #hartebeest
Don"t know about sweet when you're talking about a lion!
That would be either Harry or Harriet the #hartebeest They have this thing for standing for long periods of time in front of the camera!
yes, lion look at ASG000o5z6
I'd say so.
2 of them, look like #thomson black tail, black stripe
If David says it's a #duiker, it's a duiker!
Yea, I realized! My humor didn't show!. Did take a few minutes to figure how that one with just its trunk & tusk showing was standing!
don't know why I didn't see that!
strange #elephant configuration. trunk, 2 legs, 1 tail on the right. 2 legs 1 ear to the left. How is that animal put together?
Don't know about this one, could it be Vervet monkey?
Yes, a young #buffalo. In many of these animals the young have different looking horns than mature animals. Look to see who they are with.
Most likely reflection of flash on vegetation.
#hippo See ASG000mw6n just right!
I think it is the top of a #warthog head. See the hair?
There is something here I thought was a shadow until I saw ASG000oyrj maybe a hyena or jackal. There are also 3 giraffes in the background.
See ASG000y48y I followed from current image to that one about 20 min later. I think they are buffalo.
Most likely his buffalo friends that he hangs around with during the daytime!
#hartebeest coming up to camera to take a bow.
#hartebeest looks like maybe a mom
#black-backed jackal
GIANT NOSE!
#hartebeest
And I assume in view that is an #oxpecker hitching a ride.
I've never seen this before #hippo close-up! They are usually walking by on the hippo highway.
#spotted hyena coming in for a closer look
I thought they were one of those flightless types. I just never took the time to look it up!
Which country is this "native" to?
Looking to see if there is anything new going on out on the range!
Or possibly #elephant, resting, see also ASG0010sp0
Oh, like human males, growing hair out of their ears and noses as they age! Sometimes their noses and ears even grow! 😃
Black spot beneath ear, must be #reedbuck
you know, just when I'm starting to feel a little confident, these animals have to stand in weird presentations and mess with my mind!
#dikdik big eyes, spots in front, mohawk hair, needs braces!
I thought the eland would be too tall for the face to be right in front of the camera like that. How do you know that it is male?
I'm thinking #warthog. About level with the camera. That flap in front of eye.
Totally stumped @ first. Thought wildebeest because of horns, realized-tusk of behind animal decided #warthog ASG0010lbk see tail
Not sure on this one. ASG000oazl doesn't give a whole lot more. Maybe spotted hyena, or possibly lion mane. Think Hyena, looks like spots.
I believe I see the spot below ear in image ASG000qqi4 which would make it #reedbuck
view # #bird coming in for a landing!
#buffalo See ASG00109sg
Perhaps he is raising his paw because he wants to ask a question, or to be excused to go to the bathroom
ASG000yrdi shows an adult #topi on the left. So this is likely a young #topi
Sorry, #wildebeest. You can see horns on head if you look real close, or enlarge. Plus previous image shows it ASG000nti7 ASG000nti6
thanks for help. I was back and forth on that one.I thought aardwolf would have fewer stripes and maybe lighter leg color.
I'm no expert but I believe I see stripes! I'd classify as #zebra
#eland See the patches on the back side of the front legs? It matches that on the ID samples.
Maybe a #cheetah tail. Not really sure on this.
#striped-hyena
young #impala The horns in several species are different when the animal is young.
Is that the I have to go to the bathroom leg-cross?
a pair of con-joined #zebras or are they "headless"? HaHa
So glad to know we humans aren't the only ones to eat while we are on the "road"
If you noticed, in the reference photo you help to affirm the ID!
You know I remember a young male lion whose mane was just starting. It has a similarity in appearance, ASG000nihk
Yes, #spotted-hyena See ASG000spt9
#reedbuck, male. see ASG000omso, it shows the forward-curving horns.
Maybe a wrist and base of hand. See wrist jewelry in view #1 & #2. No barebum do I see. Or maybe you're being humorous!?
Maintaining batteries and memory card.
Interesting
These with obstruction/defect on left are included in the images with the 09 dates
Beam me up Scottie!
#dik dik Eyespot very evident
young #topi
Here's another dated from 2009 sneaking in. I get 1, or 2 a day!
#topi and young
A good example showing structure of #buffalo head as opposed to wildebeest, and lack of the beard.
#buffalo takes an evening trip to the mud #spa. Maybe the prices are cheaper in the evening?
#secretary bird. It is such a close-up, too bad its face is already past the view finder. It would have been a great image.
#faulty. I know this is not what the camera is supposed to take a pic of, it has been knocked around. In its own way though, it is pretty.
#faulty camera
Been stung on this but I see on ASG000ze0n they do have eye spots, so I vote #dik dik !
The sneeze or whatever knocked its ears down! And quivered its lips!
#opps
I find this interesting. Because of shape I believe #impala I assume maybe to be resting in front of camera.
1 horned #hartebeest & young
Thanks, hopefully I'll remember now. I don't think I saw those pics before.
Moderator does identify image appearing 2 min later which appears to be the same as #bushbuck
female, see ASG0011x3c a clear pic of head ASG0011x3b is head profile.
#bird don't see it in the charts
#human hand
I think it is inside of truck, later images are. Maybe camera replacement? ASG000yc14 and following to ASG000yc19
Are you thinking the skinny to the right? If so that is vegetation, not a tail.
Some type of #bird
#lion, I guessed wrong, should have gone with the 1st idea. The very bottom was cut off when I classified so didn't see that white fur
stamp time 6 hr ahead of local
maybe Harry & Harriet #hartebeest!
#dik dik
I believe there is a #dik dik in the bush in the left lower corner.
Somewhere I had a gray one but can't find it! maybe a new species?
#buffalo I say, it's rather warm out here today!
I'd say he's got his head on backwards!
No category for #defecation! #thomson gazelle
Also look @ ID images of wildebeest, they have distinctive bend in back, taller, thinner legs, and that beard! Vertical hair hangs from back
#wildebeest sort of oval head #buffalo the head sort of slants down from forehead then then snout. B more stocky, shorter fuller legs.
This type of image makes it look as if they are taking a look right back at me!
An #impala parade!
I like that one. That was really good.
Look at ASG000revw This image is most likely #buffalo as other image is #buffalo for sure.
This is image right after ASG000revv This is #buffalo, since it's about 3-4 min later I believe the other is #buffalo also.
Perhaps a #bird. Is that a little, tiny, pointed bill in view 1 sticking out to the right of that grass head?
Ah, never heard of that dance before until I came on SS!
And TV makes, or tries to make you believe they are eating each other all the time!
Whenever I see an image from this camera and there is no life in it, I think wasteland. I realize it has its green time, but not now!
Ok, anyone interest, and wanting to do the work, look for the images about 5 steps each direction from here. A lovely pair of moms & babes.
#infant #wildebeest
#nursing, #infant #wildebeest
#nursing #wildebeest
#Nursing #wildebeest
Feel like this #buffalo is just kind of taking a glance at us as it walks by?
Yea, I saw before and was thinking a nice little dance-step--but not with that blade in his hand!
Center two are #grant's so I figure outer are also, but cannot see anything to prove-rump, or eyes, clearly
I saw this on my small kindle fire and made a wild guess, couldn't see, can't remember. Are they #eland? Have that big bulky look, or #topi?
Those are buffalo and the flies like to hang with the buffalo and I notice on occasion with the lion, but not like those buffalo!
Nice
No doubt, a #leopard it is!
Based on that they seem to come out at night and that looks like a black nose, my best guess is #reedbuck.
The camera is knocked over and the ground is to your left. I believe it is just moving its leg.
Poor Harry/Harriet #hartebeest broke its horn
That black nose and big ears are real suggestive of #reedbuck too.
The shot 4 min before this is a thomson so i assume that is what this is. I guessed something different in my classification.
See ASG000ze2k The animal turns and faces the camera.
ASG000p005 and ASG000p006 show what happen next. I do believe it was resting/sleeping.
#wildebeest #headshot
You are right about it showing the #buffalo head shape as opposed to that eggy-shape of the #wildebeest. Their pose is the problem!
I think it looks like #wildebeest, also.
The #impala says, "And here's what I think of you!"
#collared #lioness
#wildebeest and other animals, when they are young have a different shape to their horns than the adults do.
A young #wildebeest your clue, wildebeest around, has the beard. Young have straight horns.
I believe it's a buffalo, see ASG000otr6 which is about 1 min later
Yes, it is a bird, a vulture, see: ASG0010w7m
2, #hartebeest
In some shots this #wildebeest looks like it has "kankles"!
or another #zebra!
I think it looks like an elephant. Maybe a young one. Look how thick the legs are.
Often you catch the young napping, you know, babies, taking their naps. It does look like these are young animals.
http://talk.snapshotserengeti.org/#/boards/BSG0000001/discussions/DSG0000jdp Here, read what Davidbygott says about animals coexisting.
Have you read what Davidbygott says about always believing animals are waiting to pounce on other animals? TV documentaries have mislead us
This IS a #black-backed jackal.
#thomson-gazelle
This is a #thomson-gazelle see the black tail in this view. ASG000yagr
#wildebeest -because of the dark mane hair on the back and the light colored beard hair hanging under the chin.
Gotta be a young one to be that near the camera and have more of him than knees!
If there are flies there are buffalo and occasionally lions!
Yes, #white-tailed-mongoose
#serval See the tail, it is ringed as opposed to spotted. They are often confused.
That feathery tail is your indicator that it is a hartebeest!
I had previously identified ASG000zsrb as #baboon it is the next pic.
one #elephant on the move!
#cheetah family 3 or 4 of them. unsure of the total.
looks like a young #elephant
perhaps a #mongose
Since this was the only side seen I mis-ID'd. It is a #hippo.
Neither, they are #impala.
could this #wildebeest be pregnant?
That hilarious!
Not so sure it is a wildebeest. Look at ASG000smp9 I believe it is a lion.
Nice #impala
#spotted-hyena
#eland chewing
I wonder if it may have been caught in a snare.
#elephant doing a sideways two-step
Anyone know this #bird? I just don't know the birds. I looked through the directory, but didn't see this one included.
#lion cubs. So sweet if a lion can be called sweet!
I was just thinking the same thing. Anyone know for sure?
#spotted hyena
#giraffe _butt shot
This is also a #flash reflection off of the grass. See ASG000py2c and. ASG000py34
This is #flash reflecting off of the grass. No animal.
This is #reedbuck
#wildebeest see ASG000n648
#Buffalo eating. I hit thé wrong buttons on thé other screen.
Nice #Grant's-gazelle close up. A very clear picture.
See ASG0010avz
This kind of feathered tail is a #hartebeest
Doesn't he need red or white lights on the tips of the horns?
See ASG000o8km a thomson gazelle
see ASG000pu9s
but take a peak if you can!
#lion -male!
I believe #porcupine.
Building à nest.
possibly #reedbuck?
I find it amazing the tale a tail can tell!
Thanks for indicating which type.
Nice profile of #grant-gazelle
I clicked nothing there, but believe maybe a #spotted-hyena is in center left
#waterbuck female
#jackal
#buffalo -see the flies hoovering all around the animal? You can tell that it is a buffalo by the flies! A dead give-away!
#reedbuck spot below ear
Never saw the definition of that "word" before, and Don't think it appropriate. Try expanding your vocabulary.
#rain
1 #impala in front & a whole crowd of them in the field between/behind the trees. I almost didn't see until I clicked play.
Looks like this #impala is missing about 2/3 of it's right horn
#flash no animal
It is a #heartbeest See ASG000pvn5 They like to hang out in front of cameras, or by themselves on the horizon under a tree.
I believe it is the "base"to the antler of a #buffalo or #wildebeest. I think it is the #wildebeest. ASG000q4b7
I understand the the horns of many female #homson gazelle are deformed. Thought to be some kind of change because females don''t use them.
Mother & Young #eland #nursing
Don't believe it's impals. Animal on the left has dark spots on all 4 legs. Eland has on 2. #topi have dark markings on all. 3 of each there
http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidbygott/9355446889/ This is a link to the rumps of herbivores. Look @ the eland butt
And horses don't live in Serengeti
The animal is too tall to be lion. I think maybe #eland. The camera traps are around 1 meter off the ground.
#nosey #hartebeest
#nosey #thomsons
#flash causing strange opticals. see ASG000zqgm
#elephant leg?
#birds riding, #flies flying, there's no doubt about it, it's gotta be the #buffalo!
This photo with the #lioness wearing her fashionable neckware keeps making its rounds.. #collar
I think so too. They are in the area in previous photo.
That is #wildebeest beard. Whenever you see the cream colored hairy matter it is wildebeest. Youth on the ground.
#dik dik They are showing up pretty often right now.
They do have a haunted, creepy look to them in the dark with those eyes reflecting the flash.
Something is back there to the right of the tree wiggling around. Maybe a bird?
#faulty camera..I don't know if this is in the camera trap box or if it misfired in the truck
#warthog ASG000ztw7
That's a great name for it. Go to ASG000yjba and see the elephant do it. I think we can find that most of them do!

#grant gazelle. A really big set of horns. I figure that is a sign of maturity.
a #serval roaming in the night
a #topi, but I believe I see cat whiskers on the right side.
ASG000pzro is next photo. a tall bird. Possibly a heron? I'm not sure.
That #hartebeest profile! Harry the hartebeest isn't standing right next to the camera. He is usually right in front of it or way far away.

#dik dik See the spot between eye and nose? That is a dik dik characteristic.

#spotted hyena?
2 #giraffe
@baboon something caught his attention
looks like #impala nursing
#baboon
Animals usually hang together, so if the right is #buffalo, so is the 1 on left. That is how I would think it through
Animal on right looks big & bulky like a #buffalo. Head seems to have concave shape from nose to top as buffalo. #wildebeest would be oval.
I think #dik dik too. In image ASG000oeh8 you can see the spiked horns of the male dik dik
The size of "everything" in photo, fur color, any markings. Perhaps #topi, #heartebeest, or maybe wildebeest. I think #topi

#waterbuck young, I think
#white-tailed mongoose
#humans Cutting grasses in front of camera traps for the view.
No, they get knocked out of place by hyenas especially and other animals. Go to blog and search faulty cameras
From images I have looked at off site, #whitetail mongoose is correct. That is how I have ID'd in past. Zorilla is skunk-like I understand.
I believe #buffalo
See ASG000yqp6 I believe it is a vervet monkey
This is an #optical effect from the flash of light on grass tops & thorns. See ASG000negg
#optical effect from flash. See ASG0010jvvw and ASG0010jzz
This is the camera flash reflecting off of the vegetation. That flash does does weird things, causing optical illusions.
#topi ASG000z83c is next pic. dikdik have a different head shape. Hartebeest, topi are sort of horse shaped.
#human I see white pants, with dark spots. Maybe these are the pants that in the dark look like the albino elephant trunk!
From the shadows it looks like 2 #hartebeest are standing behind camera and sun behind them
weed-whacker to cut grass down in front of cameras so views not obstructed.
Just a relaxing day hanging out on the Serengeti watching the grass and each other horns grow, enjoying one another's company. #wildebeest

#heartbeest
Looks like a #buffalo ear with a weird color reflection.
#weaver birds
I really don't know what those little guys on the right are
Ok if it's kinda big & you don't know what it is, best guess is #wildebeest. But really, I see nothing
I'm thinking #kori-bustard
How about #topi in tall grass
Maybe edge of where there was #fire
Is this the #dewlap on an #eland?
#Buffalo & baby
#faulty camera I believe this may be camera on side looking @ a tree?
I believe this is that #side-striped-jackal
Hey, we're all learning! Trying to help each other learn. That's why we "discuss" them.

The color on this #ostrich seems so much lighter.
My thoughts were #impala parade, but I do like your conga line!
female #lion #collar
beautiful pic of #grant gazelle.
Did you look @ rump view? It's a thomson gazelle. Along bottom border of pic you can see part of dark stripe, then black tail.
see ASG000ru6o taken a few min earlier a moderator ID'd it as cheetah.
female #lion with #collar
Plus rhino horns are in center and I think this is to the outside of the eye.
I believe it looks like the horn on the middle example of the warthog. I could be wrong. Rhinos are rare. I've never seen one.

I call this #wildebeest meeting to order
a dancing #buffalo
http://blog.snapshotserengeti.org/2013/06/04/drumroll-please/ I hope clicking on this will take you to it.
#eland and youth
That is funny, if you keep pressing play it does look like he is doing a bit of a dance.
#warthog on the move and #Tommies
Thought it was 1 #zebra until I clicked play and saw the subtle movement in upper left. A whole party going on over there.
#hippo on the hippo highway
male #reedbuck
A glow-in-the-dark- #zebra
#impala Interesting photo
Big and dark and flies--gotta be a #buffalo!
Somebody's moving fast on the left #impala? Possibly a #tommie on the right
An #impala picnic!
Yes, in the blog there is a great posting about them along with short videos of them @ work.
Look @ discussions/chat/getting fooled by the flash. There are a few of these optical effects listed. Camera flash does weird things.
Did somebody want head-shots of animals? Here is a #zebra looking towadr camera. Or was the desire to face the other direction?
#dikdik?
Just as I finished, and already clicked, I noticed all of the animals just above the grass.!
Interesting view of #elephant as it progresses through views.
I cannot tell if something is there, or if it is a shadow moving, Ideas?
2 #hippo on the hippo highway.
#aardwolf? in the dark.
Funny, I just couldn't figure that one out. The movement was just so odd.
3 #giraffe & 3 #tommies. Just about missed those giraffe in the tees.
#hartebeest. Just gotta get away from the crowds and go for a walk tonight!
Maybe a fire came through.
I agree. ASG000p9g4
Looks like reflectors along highway, or perhaps a string of patio lights but since its in the middle of the Serengeti, I bet #wildebeest!
Running an errand for the boss! After all they are secretary birds.
a #hippo on the hippo highway!
It's just amazing how that camera flash tricks our brain into thing it iss something else. Is anyone doing a collection of optical effects?
Something is going on in this pic to give it a different appearance. It almost has a painted pitcher look to it
a glowing #serval
Nice pic of a #grant's gazelle. Still has the faint dark horizontal patch.
That's why I called it the hippo highway! And other dates of captures seem to be in the same place so I guess it is an established route.
There are also @ least 3 low to the ground animals to the left of middle tree.
#bird - busy @ work.
a "mini-#giraffe" I know it's a perspective thing, but it is interesting how it hid in that tree. You're right about play!
Go check the blog, several months ago wild dog mentioned. Some released near camera area, and may travel through.
#zebra
Exactly why I was asking for rear views. I knew what bottom of tail looked like for a long time, but not how hair came out of sides of top.
Did you mean #wildebeest?
I figure it's tree shadows on #Tommie.
Ok, these markings are different. Could this be #painted dog? or shadows? Weird pattern on a gazelle?
I believe this is the #hippo highway!
I cannot imagine what it must be like to be in Africa and see these extremely large areas just cover with uncountable numbers of animals!
nice #giraffe pic.
thanks for clearing that up. That's what I was trying to discover a while ago and didn't receive clear info. Maybe I didn't ask clearly.
Several views later shows an infant w/ adult. I think maybe on left is that infant resting on its side. Maybe nap-time?
#hippopotamus
#dikdik I believe.
#buffalo with young.
I asked once if they were of a softer material when growing which could perhaps cause them to be misshapen if pushed against. Was told yes.
Something is moving over in the left middle.
young #reedbuck
#lion-male
#baboons
I believe #hartebeest
#wildebeest. Notice vertical stripes in fur color just back of shoulder? Common in wildebeest.
are there 3 elephants there? It is so dark. Looks like 1 small, 2 adult.
#impala -1 wearing a mining headlamp.
yes #warthog
#eland -See the dark spots on the back of their legs? That is how you can tell. They are only animal w/ that marking.
Is that a #waterbuck in the center under the trees?
a really cool pic. The young one looks soo young!
Is this a honer-badger?
Is this a #bushbuck?
#reedbuck, nice pic.
Was thinking that too & to the right it looks like that pattern they get. Yet, the pic of the male lion shows fuller fur like the W's beard!
Its like the hartebeest hears a noise from the camera and turns to look @ it by the 3rd.
Does that look like an #eland over to the right along the border?
Just like all "kids" have energy to spare and wear their mothers out! LOL
Problem is they don't pose themselves so you can always see it. It's something I noticed early but you just can't always see. Good marker
lines and lines of what I assume is #wildebeest
I saw that too and thought my computer was doing something weird so I came over here to see if it had been spotted.
#Thomson's gazelle
complete #giraffes
#elephants At least 8 of them
Is this #wildebeest maybe pregnant?
yes, #eland have those dark spots behind their legs. Plus a twist in the horn.
young #hartebeest. I think I clicked on eland in error
Maybe #impala. Tips of ears are black. Black spots near ankles & body color- 2 toned is that of impala.
#lion -male
#error -blue sky
#wildebeest young & adult, all resting.
#tommies playing follow the leader!
What is it? Just as I clicked nothing, I realized there is something in the center. Perhaps a #jackal?
#error -sky
maybe a #warthog?
The beauty being they are in no way posed or set up, just "caught"in the camera traps doing what animals do!
I'd love to make a book w/ some of these photos, but they are not mine. I do hope they look into it. Maybe they can fund project with them!
#error -messed up pics!

Is that a #lion or 2 on rocks up in right hand corner? In the bushes.
#error -black
2 #elephants, adult &baby
young #bushbuck
#giraffe good look @ how long the hairy part of the tail can be.
#bushbuck?
#buffalo -the animal you can identify without really seeing much of it. Just look for the flies!
I think reedbuck is how I classified. Thought the fur looked like the ID photo. Couldn't see nose, but the eyes appear so big, I switched.
Its left of that grass. I don't know if it is possible, but it is like my computer has a "ghost" from another photo sitting there.
Thanks, a bit confused seeing them from this view & thought the turns were off. I'll have to find a site showing horn growth in animals.
#mongoose-slender?
Maybe its time to quit. I'm seeing things where things aren't. Not sure the scientists wanted us to be this nuts. We are perfectionists!
You may have something. I noticed it was looking "round" and in a daylight pic the spot to the R has an interesting twist in the branch.
#elephant A really neat photo.
3 #balloons
2 #elephants, for sure. I don't have to doubt myself on those!
some kind of #cat in the grass
#zebra action on the rocks. Not what you would expect there!
You know I think there are 2 critters up there. 1 under the collect button and 1 just to the right of it. I just noticed it.
Maybe #bat-eared fox? Does anyone know for sure?
#weaver -birds
#secretary bird
There's like a ghost of an image of what looks like a #lion in bottom left corner.
thanks, you taught me something new. It is not there in previous & following images. Just can't identify
#hartebeest-young
Yea, there is a cat of some sort. The collect button sits right over it on the pg. where we can "talk" so cant see it there. big ears.
I think it is some malfunction. I go by what I see. Nothing there if I don't see it in the good part of the field. Classify what I can see.
#waterbuck on 3rd frame
I think maybe #waterbuck -dark coat, & it looks like that vertical stripe in neck area.
#rainstorm cool photo!
#vervet monkey
#lion -female
#buffalo Is that a collar on its neck, or maybe a scar?
Then I realized there was no way a vehicle was sitting there. I was all confused by the illusion. Till I saw comparison photos.
I think it is so amazing what light flashing off of something will do to it and the distortions. I thought it was car lights 1st time I saw.
I believe #Thomson's gazelles- Looks like Tommie's black tail, David says to consider others in sight & a Tommie is in center of photo.
Nice #giraffe pic.
#wet ground!
#gazelle-tommie -a good headshot.
I believe a #zebra walking toward camera
#jackal -black-backed. I believe this correct. Anyone know for sure?
#error black
#hyena (spotted)
#Bird of some sort sitting up there in this interesting view.
left, a young #heartbeest? The horns haven't changed intoadult form yet. Differences between adult & young throw me at times.
it's how the flash bounces off the top of some of the grasses. Flashes do strange things!
#bird #white-bellied bustard?
#eland good pic showing dark markings on legs. and the type of tail.
#thomsons and the #hartebeest keeping guard.
I wish in the ID examples there was a pic of a young animal since they so often have different characteristics
#error all black
#human
#topi Those glowing eyes make him look real angry.
#Weaver birds
maybe 3, I believe there is 1 along left edge bending, & 2 standing tall in center.
Silly me, I had it reversed and was thinking baboon at first! But couldn't figure what that fluff was that ends up being the tail. #mongoose
Missed the guy over to the left side and just as I clicked finished I saw him. looks like maybe #impala
#warthog Smile! You're on camera! It's like they know which way to look.
#lion #Collar I think. What else should you do on a hot summer day? Take a nap in the shade.
Young #wildebeest?
#giraffe and friends
Nice example of a #Grant's gazelle
#error solid black
I like the technique, but you know, we saw them so it didn't work!
Wildebeest Looks like wildebeest eating zebra in the center.
#topi The family is coming for the weekend!
hartebeest this must be the 100th pic of hindquarters of a hartebeest I have done! Seems as if its the exact same pic over and over again!
#porcupine
#error- all white
Is this a #reedbuck?
That's what I thought. It's the 1st one I've seen & just couldn't figure it's orientation.
pattern looks like #leopard but I just don't see the animal shape, or orientation. What am I missing?
#giraffe how does the saying go, "three's a crowd."
ASG000tdtp upper right corner has some action
#hyena spotted
#cheetah wonder what it sees in that tree?
But they concentrated on the killings. Get us into thinking these life or death "hunts"go on all of the time. I think what they do is wrong.
You know David, the new special, North America, that is about all the show concentrates on. They could have done so much with it.
#bat-eared fox I'm not real sure about this. Wish I could see the tail. Can anyone confirm this?
Then you get something fun & exciting like this!
#cheetah the best part of doing this project is the surprises you find out of the blue! Pic after pic of waving grass or beests & zebras
#reedbuck yes looks like a young one
#zebra pretty photo
#lion female #collar
#buffalo is it a young buffalo? It has that stocky body.
#buffalo
#warthog but the tail isn't right & nor is fur/hair. Any body know what it is?
#impala nice view, you can see dark spots @ ankles, tips of ears. side view of horns, and headshape, which differs from grants & tommies
#wildcat That is how I classified it & when I came to discuss it I see David has said it is a wildcat! A pat on the back!
#warthog --horns are on left & right side, on a #rhino the 2 horns would be one behind the other, large in front, a smaller one behind.
Is that a #serval in bottom right corner?
#lions 2 lions on high rock on the right, napping.
#zebra Does the walking zebra on the right seem to be "blacker" than the others? Like the white stripes are more narrow than usual?
#warthog No doubt about it.
I think you're right. I believe I see 2nd eye stripe, & horns seem 2 widen.
Or maybe just hanging in same area. Have you read Davidbygott's farewell where he talked about the eyes in the background?
#zabra a nice pic
#hartebeest A whole group, not just one lonely 1 under a tree
#hartebeest #scratching
#hartebeest ?looks like shadow of hartebeest, but I missed it until I clicked finished! Then I recognized the shadow.
#lion ?
#grant
#lion looks like 2 young
#impala Male. Nice horns. I assume the crowd behind is also impala.
#human Chasing something away with thorny bush?
#zebra funny! On 2nd & 3rd photo you can see 2nd head drop down. But sure looks like 8 legs!
Don't think its #hartebeest, but a #topi
I think so. Looks like Grants eyes, and hartebeest horns.
#eland no doubt about it, he's eating!
#bird in flight, close image
#topi I agree!
#bird Dont know what kind. I know some of you folk follow birds.
#weaver bird nests
#wildebeest Oh that feels better now!
#topi rainstorm coming!
#lion is how I classified it but had 2nd thoughts. Yea I see the ear now. Figuring orientation can be so hard. Thanks!
#porcupine, or some type of cat?
Actually there are quite a few photos with birds going along for the ride. Maybe catching some insects, like the flies with buffalo
No living creatures but some interesting optical from sun, lense, etc!
#eland A good look @ the head and horns of the animal. An interesting twist they have.
#lion or #baboon ? What do you think? Seeing this much from behind, I just can't tell. Nose that is showing looks like maybe baboon.
#hartebeest That 1 hartebeest that likes to be photographed. Say what?
#eland & a rider!
A pic they take @ beginning to label the film from that camera's card
#topi maybe. Looks like it has those dark patches on legs. They are supposed to be tall, & if it's standing right next to camera, possible.
#zebra Is this zebra preg? I know they have bellies, but this one looks fuller, and hardly swayback.
#aardwolf
#birds in flight
#tommy does anyone know are the horns somewhat soft on young Tommy's? I often see horns bent like this and wonder how it occurs.
#hartebeest & #grant in same shot
#eland at least 6,maybe a few more over to right. Or could be another type. They seem darker, though.
#buffalo-broken horn. He shows up frequently to get his photo taken!
#bird-looks like 2 different types
young #wildebeest
#impala-I think head tilt is throwing you off. view #3 shows some of the curves in antlers
#buffalo-curved horn-lots of flies
Thanks, knew kori is big,but not that big! Believe I read its largest bird able to fly. Thought it was a perspective thing confusing my eyes
#kori bustard
I've been confused about this issue. Maybe it has been addressed & I just haven't seen it

#reedbuck
#eland
ok, now I see it.

@tillydad I wonder about this being a Thomson. I went with #Grant because of marks showing on both sides of the eyes. What do you think?
Look like grant horns
What looks like grant in center of pic. 2 groupings- 1 directly behind, and 1 to right of it. Possibly more grants.

More likely #buffalo They look to be buffalo horns, not eland.

#dailyzoo

#slate 11/19/13

Yes, especially the buffalo. They are like fly paper.

#bird
They are cows. Classify as human (because of the human influence) then come over here to discussion, if no one else has mark #cows
So best to mark it this way #lioness #collar If we see any with collar on they ask us to ID them this way - only females have them 😃

#bird
Jackal is what came to mind 1st, but didn't think their snout that pointed. I wondered about angle+height, made me think it was prey.
Maybe the underside of the chin of a #B-E-fox?
#lions?
Anyway possible it could be a warthog? View 3 reminds me of a warthog mane and ear, Don't know if they have flies. View 2 the ear.

thanks, gang, I was wondering too, You see what look like eyes, then maybe pointed ears, etc.
#lioness #collar

Ideas

I had a regular honey badger show up a couple of days ago. Last yr I saw none. Some interesting things this year!

#impala
young #hartebeest the horns change as they mature.
#serval
Looks like warthog tail. height seems right, just cannot see the body or
face! That would be my guess.
#lion ear
I believe there are 4 giraffe in center and 2 more to the right. A previous pic shows
6 of them.
#impala
white-headed buffalo weaver on left and 2 guinea fowl I believe.
#male #lion
There are 2 over there for a total of 3. See ASG000oijx
#topi
#Grant gazelle
See the stripe on back of legs? That's your clue. #eland
Thought to be tail feathers of some bird/owl
thought hartebeest but 1/2 hr later ASG000n91w a #topi & young was ID'd and these are the pair!
#serval
#serval This place is a hang out for the serval or the tawny eagle. Interesting pair. ASG000zwfu
I was so fascinated by this zebra's pattern, I missed the others hanging in the back. It seems to have more white than most zebras we see.
#reedbuck
#serval
#lion I think with a #collar
Who knows what's next? I am starting to think they can see me when they are staring into the cameras-skyping!
Maybe the animals are taking over!
HaHa! Caught in the act! It just goes to show the merits of "security cameras".
#lion
Yes, #impala See ASG000z7ox just moments before
#eland but is there something on the ground to the right?
light reflected off the vegetation. See ASG0010kja
Unless there is a whole "family" of buffalo with broken horns this particular buffalo shows up in a lot of photos!
#waterbucck
I believe #spotted hyena
maybe side of #hippo face
Clicked through too quickly & missed the zebra in my face!
#topi
HAHA
#eland
Hey, at least it was a photo of a leopard and not the front end of a real live one coming at ya!
#lion stretching, scratching, resting in the shade
#leopard
#impala
#lion
#lion
#lion
yes, lion look at ASG000o5z6
I'd say so.
2 of them, look like #thomson black tail, black stripe
If David says it's a #duiker, it's a duiker!
#topi
#eland
Yea, I realized! My humor didn't show!. Did take a few minutes to figure how that one with just its trunk & tusk showing was standing!
don't know why I didn't see that!
strange #elephant configuration. trunk, 2 legs, 1 tail on the right. 2 legs 1 ear to the left. How is that animal put together?
Don't know about this one, could it be Vervet monkey?
#reedbuck
#aardvark
#eland
#hartebeest
#hartebeest
#hartebeest
Perhaps he is raising his paw because he wants to ask a question, or to be excused to go to the bathroom
ASG000yrdi shows an adult #topi on the left. So this is likely a young #topi
Sorry, #wildebeest. You can see horns on head if you look real close, or enlarge. Plus previous image shows it ASG000nti7 ASG000nti6
#wildebeest
thanks for help.
#lion
A good example showing structure of #buffalo head as opposed to wildebeest, and lack of the beard.
#wildebeest
#hartebeest
#buffalo takes an evening trip to the mud #spa. Maybe the prices are cheaper in the evening?
#secretary bird. It is such a close-up, too bad its face is already past the view finder. It would have been a great image.
#faulty. I know this is not what the camera is supposed to take a pic of, it has been knocked around. In its own way though, it is pretty.
#serval
#faulty camera
Been stung on this but I see on ASG000ze0n they do have eye spots, so I vote #dik dik !
The sneeze or whatever knocked its ears down! And quivered its lips!
#lioness #collar
#impala
#lion, I guessed wrong, should have gone with the 1st idea. The very bottom was cut off when I classified so didn't see that white fur
stamp time 6 hr ahead of local
#eland
maybe Harry & Harriet #hartebeest!
#dik dik
And TV makes, or tries to make you believe they are eating each other all the time!
Whenever I see an image from this camera and there is no life in it, I think wasteland. I realize it has its green time, but not now!
Ok, anyone interest, and wanting to do the work, look for the images about 5 steps each direction from here. A lovely pair of moms & babes.

#eland
#topi
TV documentaries have mislead us
#impala
This IS a #black-backed jackal.
#thomson-gazelle
This is a #thomson-gazelle see the black tail in this view. ASG000yagr
#wildebeest -because of the dark mane hair on the back and the light colored beard hair hanging under the chin.
Gotta be a young one to be that near the camera and have more of him than knees!
If there are flies there are buffalo and occasionally lions!
Yes, #white-tailed-mongoose
#serval See the tail, it is ringed as opposed to spotted. They are often confused.
#wildebeest
That feathery tail is your indicator that it is a hartebeest!
I had previously identified ASG000zsrb as #baboon it is the next pic.
one #elephant on the move!
#topi
#cheetah family 3 or 4 of them. unsure of the total.
looks like a young #elephant
perhaps a #mongose
Since this was the only side seen I mis-ID'd. It is a #hippo.
Neither, they are #impala.
could this #wildebeest be pregnant?
#wildebeest
That hilarious!
Not so sure it is a wildebeest. Look at ASG000smp9 I believe it is a lion.
Nice #impala

#flash no animal
#bushbuck
It is a #heartbeest See ASG000pvn5 They like to hang out in front of cameras, or by themselves on the horizon under a tree.
I believe it is the "base"to the antler of a #buffalo or #wildebeest. I think it is the #wildebeest. ASG000q4b7
I understand the the horns of many female #homson gazelle are deformed. Thought to be some kind of change because females don''t use them.

Don't believe it's impals. Animal on the left has dark spots on all 4 legs. Eland has on 2. #topi have dark markings on all. 3 of each there

ASG000pzro is next photo. a tall bird. Possibly a heron? I'm not sure.

Animal on right looks big & bulky like a #buffalo. Head seems to have concave shape from nose to top as buffalo. #wildebeest would be oval.
#hartebeest
#impala
I think #dik dik too. In image ASG000oeh8 you can see the spiked horns of the male dik dik

#human I see white pants, with dark spots. Maybe these are the pants that in the dark look like the albino elephant trunk!

#eland
Nice pic of #impala
#thomson looking @ camera..Great pic. #headshot.
1 #warthog and something just along bottom of pic, maybe #baboon
#hartebeest #Headshot
The color on this #ostrich seems so much lighter.
My thoughts were #impala parade, but I do like your conga line!
female #lion #collar
#spotted hyena
beautiful pic of #grant gazelle.
#wildebeest
Did you look @ rump view? It's a thomson gazelle. Along bottom border of pic you can see part of dark stripe, then black tail.
see ASG000ru6o taken a few min earlier a moderator ID'd it as cheetah.
female #lion with #collar
Plus rhino horns are in center and I think this is to the outside of the eye.
I believe it looks like the horn on the middle example of the warthog. I could be wrong. Rhinos are rare. I've never seen one.
#topi at a distance
#warthog
male #dik dik looking @ camera
" glow in the dark plants"
I call this #wildebeest meeting to order
a dancing #buffalo
http://blog.snapshotserengeti.org/2013/06/04/drumroll-please/ I hope clicking on this will take you to it.
#eland and youth
That is funny, if you keep pressing play it does look like he is doing a bit of a dance.
#warthog on the move and #Tommies
Thought it was 1 #zebra until I clicked play and saw the subtle movement in upper left. A whole party going on over there.
#hippo on the hippo highway
male #reedbuck
#bushbuck
#eland
#dikdik?
#impala
#hartebeest
Running an errand for the boss! After all they are secretary birds.
a #hippo on the hippo highway!
It's just amazing how that camera flash tricks our brain into thing it iss something else. Is anyone doing a collection of optical effects?
Something is going on in this pic to give it a different appearance. It almost has a painted pitcher look to it
a glowing #serval
Nice pic of a #grant's gazelle. Still has the faint dark horizontal patch.
That's why I called it the hippo highway! And other dates of captures seem to be in the same place so I guess it is an established route.
#waterbuck?
There are also @ least 3 low to the ground animals to the left of middle tree.
#bird - busy @ work.
a "mini-#giraffe" I know it's a perspective thing, but it is interesting how it hid in that tree. You're right about play!
#wildebeest
Go check the blog, several months ago wild dog mentioned. Some released near camera area, and may travel through.
#eland
#impala
#cheetah
#elephant
Several views later shows an infant w/ adult. I think maybe on left is that infant resting on its side. Maybe nap-time?
#hippopotamus
#dikdik I believe.
#buffalo with young.
I asked once if they were of a softer material when growing which could perhaps cause them to be misshapen if pushed against. Was told yes.
Something is moving over in the left middle.
young #reedbuck
#waterbuck?
#lion-male
#baboons
I believe #hartebeest
#wildebeest
#impala
#wildebeest. Notice vertical stripes in fur color just back of shoulder? Common in wildebeest.
#dik dik
are there 3 elephants there? It is so dark. Looks like 1 small, 2 adult.
#impala -1 wearing a mining headlamp.
#topi
yes #warthog
#eland -See the dark spots on the back of their legs? That is how you can tell. They are only animal w/ that marking.
Is that a #waterbuck in the center under the trees?
#elephant
a really cool pic.
#hartebeest
Does that look like an #eland over to the right along the border?
#baboon
#hippopotamus
Just like all "kids" have energy to spare and wear their mothers out! LOL
Problem is they don't pose themselves so you can always see it. It's something I noticed early but you just can't always see. Good marker
#eland
lines and lines of what I assume is #wildebeest
#serval
I saw that too and thought my computer was doing something weird so I came over here to see if it had been spotted.
#Thomson's gazelle
#hartebeest
complete #giraffes
#warthog
#elephants At least 8 of them
Is this #wildebeest maybe pregnant?
yes, #eland have those dark spots behind their legs. Plus a twist in the horn.
young #hartebeest. I think I clicked on eland in error
#wildebeest
Maybe #impala. Tips of ears are black. Black spots near ankles & body color- 2 toned is that of impala.
#hartebeest
#lion -male
#error -blue sky
#wildebeest young & adult, all resting.
#tommies playing follow the leader!
What is it? Just as I clicked nothing, I realized there is something in the center. Perhaps a #jackal?
#error -sky
#error -sky
maybe a #warthog?
The beauty being they are in no way posed or set up, just "caught"in the camera traps doing what animals do!
I'd love to make a book w/ some of these photos, but they are not mine. I do hope they look into it. Maybe they can fund project with them!
#error -sky
#error -messed up pics!
#error sky
a #Lion taking a look @ the camera
Here is one for you #bird specialists
#elephants
a #topi gathering
#wildebeest -have you had your greens today?
#topi in the trees Maybe a #grants with it
the whole #giraffe
#cheetah
#warthog close-up
comical
young #eland
#hartebeest
#cheetah Climbing up into cat's corner!
#tommie just chewing the cud
#zebra mugging for the camera!
#zebra @ the rocks. I expect to see cats @ these rocks, just basking in the sun. Or up in the shade under the bushes
#lion female
is that a #bug on th front of the camera? Kind of centered.
#serval
nice #impala
just looking in
#warthog #guinea fowl
#serval
#tommie -Regal looking for a little guy.
#dik dik
#lion
#error -white
#alien headlights (optical effects)
Is that a #lion or 2 on rocks up in right hand corner? In the bushes.
#error -black
#error -sky
#error -black
#error -sky
#error -black
#dik dik
#mongoose-slender?
#weaver birds
Maybe its time to quit. I'm seeing things where things aren't. Not sure the scientists wanted us to be this nuts. We are perfectionists!
You may have something. I noticed it was looking "round" and in a daylight pic the spot to the R has an interesting twist in the branch.
#elephant A really neat photo.
3 #balloons
2 #elephants, for sure. I don't have to doubt myself on those!
some kind of #cat in the grass
#cheetah
#zebra action on the rocks. Not what you would expect there!
You know I think there are 2 critters up there. 1 under the collect button and 1 just to the right of it. I just noticed it.
Maybe #bat-eared fox? Does anyone know for sure?
#weaver -birds
#error -black
#weaver birds
#secretary bird
There's like a ghost of an image of what looks like a #lion in bottom left corner.
thanks, you taught me something new. It is not there in previous & following images. Just can't identify
#hartebeest-young
#error -black
#error -sky
Yea, there is a cat of some sort. The collect button sits right over it on the pg. where we can "talk" so cant see it there. big ears.
I think it is some malfunction. I go by what I see. Nothing there if I don't see it in the good part of the field. Classify what I can see.
#waterbuck on 3rd frame
I think maybe #waterbuck -dark coat, & it looks like that vertical stripe in neck area.
#rainstorm cool photo!
#vervet monkey
#weaver birds
#error -sky
#lion -female
#error -sky
I believe a #zebra walking toward camera
#jackal -black-backed. I believe this correct. Anyone know for sure?
#error black
#hyena (spotted)
#Bird of some sort sitting up there in this interesting view.
left, a young #heartbeest? The horns haven't changed intoadult form yet. Differences between adult & young throw me at times.
it's how the flash bounces off the top of some of the grasses. Flashes do strange things!
#bird #white-bellied bustard?
#eland good pic showing dark markings on legs. and the type of tail.
#error sky
#error sky
#thomsons and the #hartebeest keeping guard.
I wish in the ID examples there was a pic of a young animal since they so often have different characteristics
#error sky
#error all black
#cheetah
#error sky
#giraffe and friends
Nice example of a #Grant's gazelle
#error solid black
I like the technique, but you know, we saw them so it didn't work!
#error -blue sky
Wildebeest Looks like wildebeest eating zebra in the center.
#topi The family is coming for the weekend!
hartebeest this must be the 100th pic of hindquarters of a hartebeest I have done! Seems as if its the exact same pic over and over again!
#porcupine
#error- all white
Is this a #reedbuck?
That's what I thought. It's the 1st one I've seen & just couldn't figure it's orientation.
#warthog
pattern looks like #leopard but I just don't see the animal shape, or orientation. What am I missing?
#giraffe how does the saying go, "three's a crowd."
#lion
#porcupine
ASG000tdtp upper right corner has some action
#hyena spotted
#hartebeest
#cheetah wonder what it sees in that tree?
But they concentrated on the killings. Get us into thinking these life or death "hunts"go on all of the time. I think what they do is wrong.
You know David, the new special, North America, that is about all the show concentrates on. They could have done so much with it.
#weaver birds
#Weaver birds
#bat-eared fox I'm not real sure about this. Wish I could see the tail. Can anyone confirm this?
Then you get something fun & exciting like this!
#cheetah the best part of doing this project is the surprises you find out of the blue! Pic after pic of waving grass or beests & zebras
#leopard
#reedbuck yes looks like a young one
#zebra pretty photo
#lion female #collar
#lion female #collar
#buffalo is it a young buffalo? It has that stocky body.
#buffalo
#cheetah
#impala
#warthog but the tail isn't right & nor is fur/hair. Any body know what it is?
#lion-male
#impala nice view, you can see dark spots @ ankles, tips of ears. side view of horns, and headshape, which differs from grants & tommies
#wildcat That is how I classified it & when I came to discuss it I see David has said it is a wildcat! A pat on the back!
#warthog --horns are on left & right side, on a #rhino the 2 horns would be one behind the other, large in front, a smaller one behind.
#secretary bird
#lion ?
#lion
#grant
#lion looks like 2 young
#impala Male. Nice horns. I assume the crowd behind is also impala.
#impala
#human Chasing something away with thorny bush?
#zebra funny! On 2nd & 3rd photo you can see 2nd head drop down. But sure looks like 8 legs!
Don't think its #hartebeest, but a #topi
I think so. Looks like Grants eyes, and hartebeest horns.
#eland no doubt about it, he's eating!
#reedbuck
#bird in flight, close image
#dikdik
#topi I agree!
#bird Dont know what kind. I know some of you folk follow birds.
#lion
#warthog
#secretary bird
#weaver bird nests
#wildebeest Oh that feels better now!
#topi rainstorm coming!
#aardvark
#lion is how I classified it but had 2nd thoughts. Yea I see the ear now. Figuring orientation can be so hard. Thanks!
#porcupine, or some type of cat?
Actually there are quite a few photos with birds going along for the ride. Maybe catching some insects, like the flies with buffalo
#waterbuck
No living creatures but some interesting optical from sun, lense, etc!
#baboon
#eland A good look @ the head and horns of the animal. An interesting twist they have.
#lion or #baboon ? What do you think? Seeing this much from behind, I just can't tell. Nose that is showing looks like maybe baboon.
#hartebeest That 1 hartebeest that likes to be photographed. Say what?
#eland & a rider!
#waterbuck
A pic they take @ beginning to label the film from that camera's card
#topi maybe. Looks like it has those dark patches on legs. They are supposed to be tall, & if it's standing right next to camera, possible.
#zebra Is this zebra preg? I know they have bellies, but this one looks fuller, and hardly swayback.
#aardwolf
#warthog
#birds in flight
#hartebeest
#tommy does anyone know are the horns somewhat soft on young Tommy's? I often see horns bent like this and wonder how it occurs.
#eland
#hartebeest & #grant in same shot
#topi
#topi
#eland at least 6,maybe a few more over to right. Or could be another type. They seem darker, though.
#lion
#weaver birds
#buffalo-broken horn. He shows up frequently to get his photo taken!
#topi
#lion-male
#bird-looks like 2 different types
young #wildebeest
#bushbuck
#impala-I think head tilt is throwing you off. view #3 shows some of the curves in antlers
#buffalo-curved horn-lots of flies
Thanks, knew kori is big,but not that big! Believe I read its largest bird able to fly. Thought it was a perspective thing confusing my eyes
#rain
#porcupine
#kori bustard
I've been confused about this issue. Maybe it has been addressed & I just haven't seen it
While class., sat. view says 10;46am, this says 7:46am. It is dark out. When is sunrise and set?Are these local time? Why do they differ?
