Snapshot Serengeti Talk
The dark vertical thing by the fallen tree is probably nothing, but I marked it as a bird so someone official would check it out
I marked as eland, but the horns look wrong.
Might be a termite mound. don't remember that particular lump in this camera view before
No idea what this is.
Just eyes, lots of them
might just be dung...
There may not be anything here, but maybe a better editor might refine the lump in the middle
I'm not sure what this is, but its eyelashes are amazing!
Iffy buffalo id, but there's an animal there
Not sure what these are. A couple have the profile of a hyena, so that's what I marked. But a couple look like they have jackal-like tails
I think there's a large bird under the tree. marked as kori bustard, but the body looks to big - if it's a bird at all
May be a flower, or a lighting highlight, rather than a bird
Looks like this elephant lost the end of his trunk
herd in the distance is too fuzzy to id
Not sure if the overexposed aria lower right is a cat or a stump!
possible herd of wildebeest on the horizon
Giraffe id based on two high eyes only
only eyes visible
One eye, no detail
Camera shy eland. 😃
There's a very small animal moving right to left at the level of the acacia base. I put bird; could be anything.
Jackal standing still or termite mound?
brown side only; guess who?
There may be a big herd of wildebeest in the background, but I'm not sure
There's something here, but I have no idea what it is.
something small and greyish lower right. marked as dik dik. could be anything
Might be a couple of eyes in the background. Love the Porcupine!
Chewbacca?
One of the starlings?
I don't know whose eye this is; marked as Tommy just to indicate that there's an animal here.
Probably two or three more zebras in the back, but all I could get were eyes
Feline eye. Beautiful
Not sure if the cheetah under the tree (right) is a youngster or not
One white butterfly, one red something
Marked as wildebeest, but I think they're something else, as the profile is wrong on the leftmost group. Not sure about any of them
Probably a herd in the background, but too small to ID
ID'd as lion based on one rounded ear. Could well be something else
Might be someone resting under the tree
lion?
Tough to see, but a massive male lion
All I can see are eye lights.
An unidentifiable belly...
Somebody's belly. 😃
Marked as serval, but it's just long hair to me
might be an antelope on the far left toward the back
cheetah with tiny cub!!!
Large herd of something in background, and 1 possible buffalo walking toward the back herd. Rump looks too round and bulky for wildebeest
Side Striped Jackal?
Huge, green glowing eyes
Black Bellied Bustard?
There may be an ear in the lower right on one shot. Could be a leaf, though.
May be more Tommies in the distance, but whatever they are they're moving really fast: blurry.
Zebra just beginning to get up from a roll. Great shot!
I love the dark, night shots that look empty, but have something wonderful when altered through photoshop. This one has an elephant!
fireflies? 😃
Something with a tail. 😃
May be some zebras mixed in the bunch on the left horizon
Anybody's guess
I marked this as a Topi, but it's pretty far away, and the horns don't look quite right.
Tiny antelope of some kind on the horizon
Only 1 zebra is really visible; I said 4 based on eye dots
2 Tiny animals moving to the right of the closest shrub, directly below the second tree from the right
I see from the notes that warthog is the best bet. My guess was a hyena leg....
There's a sizeable herd of something in the background, but not clear enough to id
Somebody's hip...
Marked as Thompsons, but they look more like sheep! Bottom line, I just guessed
Antelope? Hyena? some spotting on the flank, but it's confusing
three storks and a dove
Never mind. Just saw the note below from 3 days ago
Side-striped Jackal? Has a white tip to its tail
Big herd of indeterminate animals near the horizon
There's something on the far right horizon, but they're too far away to ID
Looks like one of these lions has a tracking collar on
the "Hyena" just looks like a lot of hair. Any ideas?
Wrong again. I see the note about the laidback lion. :-}
I may be nuts, but this looks like a tommy (or grants) having a baby!
marked as hyena. Really a hairy ghost...
might be an animal on the left behind the second clump of grass.
lots of eyes in the background
really far away, could be anything
I'm not even sure there's an animal, but there might be an outline on the right ; warthog? Also something spotted just right of center?
There's a smaller animal on the left, maybe a Tommy lying down, but it looks pretty small for that
There's what looks like a bigger antelope on the left with really long horns and a dark face. Is it just a bigger Tommy?
Wild guess at aardvark. All I can see is the end of a tail
tagged as lion based on round ear. a real long shot
one ear...
Bat eared fox? wild guess....
Marked as a serval, but I'm really clueless: just longish belly hair...
Just saw the note from 10 days ago. Thanks!
Marked as mongoose, but the tail is too bushy, and there are no stripes, so the banded? Maybe something else?
one lone ear
doesn't have the hair of a warthog, and the smooth coat has me scratching my head
marked as Jackal, but the grey and black soft bands on the rump don't fit, nor does the head shape
Another fuzzy ear. I called this one a lion
marked as hyena, but all there is to go on is a furry ear
Hyena? Something hairy....
Not sure about the gazelle in front. Couldn't see any dark stripe, but the horns aren't right for an impala, unless this is a youngster
either a bird or a huge butterfly
One lone, tall eye.
Couldn't get a clear image. Opted for hyena. Also, there's a leg that shows up in one of the images, far right
Some tiny moving animal to the left of the termite mound
Hare seems unlikely during the day, but there's some small rodent-like animal moving on the left. Looks too round for a mongoose, but..
ghost animal.
herd moving through trees; not clear enough to ID
tiny glossy green flying thing. Bird or insect.
Oh well... 😃
These look like warthog but big, and moving fast with tails down, so I took a wishful leap and said rhino. Now tell me they're wildebeest!
There are a bunch of small animals, low to the ground. One on the far left is tan and has a profile like a mini lion. Any suggestions?
Giraffe? just high eyes
who knows!
just night eyes
Just eyes, despite playing with photoshop. 😦
Several other antelope, too fuzzy to id
2 sets of eyes in the back; can't determine body shape
magpie shrike?
might be tiny red bird
Some form of antelope. I guessed Hartebeast, but could easily be something else
I'm guessing lion
May be a big herd of something behind the tree line
warthog?
Not sure if this is a mongoose or not. It looks a little chunky.
There might be an animal just below the midline, slightly left of center
small red moving slash- could be bird or insect
marked as buffalo due to body mass, but probably wildebeest
Possible hyena at far side of pond
Hooked bill. Vulture or raptor?
There may be a topi or some other large antelope on the horizon, far left
The animal close to the camera has a striped neck lilke a zebra, but the belly has lots lf long fur. young zebra, or something else?
Hadn't thought of that.
Hyena? Warthog? Lion? Fuzzy animal?
Porcupine! (and Jackal)
If this little guy really is a rodent, and not a bit of dead wood, I'd love to know what he is
this "Hyena" is another fuzzy animal...
Oxpecker on a zebra. Cool!
marked as Thomsons. I want it to be something else because it looks so tiny, but the dark tail led me to another Tommy
Guessed lion. Maybe there should be a "fuzzy animal" category? 😃
Maybe a cat? Marked as hyena.
May be some other animals; dark and tiny near left horizon
Kori Bustard?
Might be a male, but all I can see is lolling feet. I love this shot!
Cool little bird. Do you know what it is? (I just saw that there might be 2 of them)
One of the large, red-legged plovers
may be wildebeest, but the tail looked more like buffalo
There's something behind the zebra, under the belly, that may be an antelope, or a tall bird, or something else entirely
There may not be any people there, but this is definitely man made.
I'm guessing warthog because of the stiff tail
The land rover has stopped to watch a herd of elephants? Something else?
I'm not sure what this is. I see a dark stripe, but given the way the animal is standing, I'm not clear on what it is.
Wildebeests struggling for power. 😃
Same guy, I think, but maybe some cat, rather than hyena?
Hyena? It's short face and forward facing eyes make me think something doglike
I've seen this "chin" before. Is it foliage?
Wild guess of hyena because of the ear shape. What is it really?
Just saw the discussion. I had this down as an ?ostrich?. At least I got that it was a bird...
may be a group lying down in the background
Might be a Thomsons, but the shrub blocks the side, so I can't see if there's a black stripe or not
Really too small to id, but at least there are animals here
bird in the top of the front tree
No idea if this is an animal or vegetation
Hyenas make it more fun...😃
This is an "I don't have a clue" ID. Clearly an animal, but no idea what
There's an eye light on the left, but I couldn't determine any shape
No idea what the huge white silhouette is.
Best guess. "Zebra" back right, "wildebeest" left front. build of wildebeest looks like cross between buffalo and hippo. New species?
Four bat-eared foxes. Playing with exposure in Photoshop is making such a difference!
Tail only.
There's that "ear" again, even less of it.
There may be an ear in the lower right of one shot
Another one bites the dust...
There's something small and tan that pops into one picture just to the right of the left-most wildebeest
wildebeest is a guess for the herd just below the horizon
I put Thompsons because they're so common, but all I can see is horn. Haven't found a good source for horn comparison yet
Two Hyenas moving up on a buffalo? Probably got both ID's wrong...
buffalo? the skin makes me think elephant, but the relative height and leg thickness doesn't quite fit
small white butterfly or moth
land rover
wildebeest on the move
cheetah
Thanks
One wildebeest for sure, lots of eyes that might be more
tiny animals on the horizon
There are a dozen unidentifiable animals on the far horizon
Topi? Probably not...
tiny antelope near the horizon
I'm thinking lion based on the cowlick in the fur
Lovely cheetah!
jeep/land rover
Hyena?
the one high light may be an eye, but I couldn't see any animal form
male lion
I think there's a bird on top of the highest tree
sleepin lion
I do a lot of this sort of thing when I go birding at home. Lots of "stump birds" 😃
I'm calling the little fuzzy moving dots flies, and there are a bunch of what I think are antelope in the far distance
Missed it again! 😃
You're right. I just did the photoshop enhancement, and there's nothing there. Before PS I didn't even see the water!
Best guess of zorilla, to left of higher shrub
ghost hippo?
Night eyes became zebras. Photoshop rules!
Photoshop helped pick up a possible wildebeest, but the higher lights didn't resolve into anything identifiable
I shipped this to photoshop and lighted it, and a jackal carrying a bone became three clear Tommies!
Still just night eyes. I still haven't figured out how to pull the picture to a white page. I'll keep at it.
I don't know what this is. (small tan animal left center) I . I'll let the pros figure it out. 😃
I marked it as a cerval
This guy (or gal) has found a toy: the camera!
It's a little far away, and the picture isn't clear, but as it's daytime, and the animal has a long body, I opted for cheetah
I don't have a refined enough PC to see anything more than eyes. 😦
I put lion! Yay!
Is there any way to go back once I hit the finished button? On this one something popped in on the left, but I saw it too late.
Wild guess based on ear shape, but whatever it is, it's a ghost. Cool shot!
Did I get this one right, or is it wishful thinking?
Thanks! So which one is this one?
Probably something else...
Tiny animals far right, and somebody's chin
More night eyes
Any tips on how to tell these night angelopes apart?
A ghost zebra?
Hot air balloon
Might just be a bare patch in the grass
Another wild guess. I based it mostly on the tail, but it might be an antelope! :-}
Night eyes
Is that a cat face in the shadows?
This "ID" is based on the small, grey blob on the far right, just above center. It may not even be an animal.
Very cool! Thank you!!
Jeeps
Another confusing antelope id
night eyes
I'm thinking this is really some kind of cat, but anything I put is going to be a guess. Any suggestions?
jeep
I think the far left animal is something else, but I haven't a clue what
The "impala" is another wild guess
Thanks! I thought they were pretty small, but the black neck threw me.
There may be nothing here at all, but on the lower left there looks to be a head
The "waterbuck" back left is a wild guess.
Night eyes, but a hint of jawline
At first I thought this might be a cat, but it's so dark, and the tail looks like the baboon tails in the pictures
There's a sizeable herd of something moving behind the tree line
Black-bellied Bustard?
Somebody's chin
Best guess
My favorite!!!
Thanks! The two-tone ear should have pointed me that way. 😃
I couldn't find anything with a long neck and thick fur like this guy front right. If you could let me know what it is, I'd be very happy.
Hit the wrong button, so the zebra didn't get id'd
One lone eye
Could be a human (probably not), could be a bush, could be .... bottom line, I have no idea
best guess
Are those scars along his side and shoulder?
Thompsons is my go to animal when I can't tell what it is. These guys are on the horizon on the left.
night eyes only
Nothing but eye spots, some close together? Could be anything smallish
White tailed mongoose?
There's a group of animals to the left of the more distant zebra.
someone's hind leg
another belly shot
Just a round, tan belly..
Just the glow from eyes. Could be anything
Possibly a buffalo weaver?
The "mongoose" is some small animal moving on the far right of the trees by the fallen branch
Just eyes. could be anything
I have no idea what this animal really is, as it's too low, and the clarity is limited. I just know there's something alive there
Totally groundless ID. There's something there for sure, but I have no idea what it is.
