  Oww, that looks painful! It might have been lions - looks like clawmarks on his back, and a neck wound, and something seriously went for his balls too. Sometimes lions get a buffalo down on the ground and start working on him, and then his mates charge in and drive the lions away...could have been that kind of scene. What do other carnivorologists think?

  A bit late in the discussion, but something that comes to mind as a testicle-targetter is a honey badger. THey have been known to bring down lions and big buffs in this way.
